College Basketball Star, 21, Killed & Nine Other Injured During Mass Shooting in N.Y.C.

According to the NYPD and Houston Baptist University, a young boy was killed and nine others injured in a shooting incident in New York City. 

According to the Police Department, police responded on a shooting reports and reached at East 139th St. and Fifth Ave. in Manhattan. At the crime scene, officers found nine injured people including two females and seven males, however one male was dead.

The dead male was identified as as Darius Lee who is 21 years old from Harlem and graduate student and a basketball player and played for Houston Baptist University.

A firearm was also recovered from the crime scene but no arrest made so far however investigations are in progress.

The James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach at HBU shared a statement after tragic incident,

"We are devastated. Darius was a remarkable young man who loved the Lord, his mom, his family, his teammates, his friends and his entire HBU family," 

"As great of a basketball player as he was, he was an even better person. I can't even think of basketball right now. I can only think of what a light Darius was during his short time on earth. He was a joy to coach and we loved him so much."

The university's director of athletics Steve Moniaci also shared a statement 

"unfortunately, yet again, another example of the senseless gun violence that seems to be plaguing our country right now and we all pray it will cease."
