The South Korean diva, who is one-fourth of the K-pop mega girl group Blackpink, channelled the "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" theme wearing a classic design at Monday's annual star-studded fashion event.
"I'm dressed in Chanel from the 1990s runway." I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the Chanel crew reproduce Karl's style. "I'm overjoyed!" On the red carpet, Jennie, 27, told Emma Chamberlain for Vogue.
Jennie wore a strapless white short dress with a scalloped neckline, pleated skirt, and the label's distinctive flower embellishment.
She paired her braided hairstyle with elbow-length black gloves, a black choker, and a white flower hair pin. Her two-toned attire was finished by black tights and traditional black heels.
Jennie (full name Kim Jennie) received some basic but excellent advise from one of her Blackpink groupmates before making her debut at the annual party.
"I don't know what to expect, but Rosé was here last year and told me, 'Just have fun,' so that's the plan for today," she explained.
The display at the Met will feature about 150 of late visionary Lagerfeld's most iconic designs from the several houses he worked for (including Chloé, Fendi, Balmain, Patou, and Chanel) as well as his eponymous label.
When assembling the pieces, museum curator Andrew Bolton looked to Lagerfeld's source of inspiration: his sketches.
"At its core, the exhibition will look at the evolution of Karl's two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional garments," Bolton explained to Vogue about how he came up with the eye-catching presentation.
Jennie is now completely immersed in the world of Chanel.
She has been an ambassador for the brand since 2017, first fronting the fragrance and beauty lines before transitioning into the fashion and accessories lines.
The multi-talented model recently modelled the Chanel 22 bag, a pouch-like pocketbook with a chain-link strap that debuted in creative director Virginie Viard's Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
Jennie travelled to Paris for the brand's Fall/Winter 2023 show, where she wore an all-white ensemble that included a tweed jumpsuit fastened with a pearl belt (adorned with a rose pendant) and a slicked-back French braid.
