Jennifer Lopez stunned onlookers with her outfit for the Met Gala, showcasing both her femininity and strength.
The singer, aged 53, wore a hand-made Ralph Lauren halter gown with a midriff-baring design and a pink silk satin skirt. She paired this with towering platforms, black silk evening gloves, and a leather beret trimmed with fishnet material.
In an interview with Vogue, she expressed her admiration for the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, to whom the event was dedicated. Lopez met Lagerfeld in the past and called him an iconic figure in fashion, a true genius who kept the Chanel brand fresh, young and alive.
She also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to attend the Met Gala, which was a childhood dream of hers, and to honor Lagerfeld's memory.
The Met Gala is a highly exclusive fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, also known as The Anna Wintour Costume Center. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and a chair member of the gala since 1995, lends her name to the center.
This year's Met Gala theme is "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," honoring the iconic German fashion designer who passed away in 2019 at the age of 85.
The accompanying exhibit, as stated in a release from the Met, will feature about 150 of Lagerfeld's most significant outfits from his six-decade career. The display will include pieces he designed for well-known brands such as Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his own eponymous label.
Jennifer Lopez collaborated with Ralph Lauren to design her wedding gowns for her August 20th wedding to Ben Affleck. Her ceremony gown was a custom Ralph Lauren collection dress with a voluminous ruffle skirt made from 1,000 handkerchiefs and a cathedral-length veil.
She then changed into a chandelier pearl gown with hand-embroidered silk tulle, pearl embellishments, and Swarovski crystal detailing.
The design was hand-embroidered by 30 artisans and took 700 hours to complete. Her third Ralph Lauren gown featured a mermaid silhouette with a removable hood and a keyhole neckline adorned with varying sizes of Swarovski crystals.
