Welcome to Plathville’s Moriah Plath is opening up to her father Barry Plath about a dark period in her life.
During Tuesday’s episode of the TLC show, Moriah, 21, had lunch with her dad, 55, at the farm. As the father-daughter duo caught up on each other’s lives, the conversation took an unexpectedly emotional turn.
Moriah confided in her dad that she was in a “dark” place amid all the family drama and confessed that, at one point, she even “didn’t want to live anymore.”
“A few months ago I hit rock bottom,” she shared. “I got used to just being miserable and I forgot what it felt like to be happy. And I was just yucky on the inside. I was very dark, very depressed. I just didn’t want to live anymore.”
On top of parents Barry and Kim’s divorce, Moriah was facing an ongoing conflict with her brother Ethan Plath’s wife, Olivia Plath. She and Olivia, 25, were previously best friends, but a series of issues between them prompted Moriah to declare that she was done trying to have a relationship with her sister-in-law.
Speaking to Barry, Moriah alleged that Olivia stole her music, which they had recorded together. She also revealed that she blocked Ethan, 25.
“I started to feel like this is not how I want to live my life,” she said in a confessional interview. “Like, God, if this is how it’s going to be, I just, I would rather just die. Like, I would never kill myself. But like, can you take me now?”
She explained that she reached a “huge pivot” moment where she realized something needed to change or “it’s going to kill me.” Barry, concerned, said he understood a little bit about what depression was like and could relate to where she was coming from.
Then, Moriah revealed surprising news: she wanted to get baptized again. She explained to producers that while she was baptized as a child, it wasn’t really her “choice” at the time.
“I’ve tried to do this alone for years, and there’s no way I’m going to be able to get through this without Jesus,” she shared. “God never felt real in my life until I hit rock bottom, until I realized I can’t do it alone.”
Barry was absolutely thrilled by her decision and called it “awesome.”
“I am so happy,” he told producers. “Early on, you know, we just raised our children, you know, to love God and be his. But, you know, they chose their own path. And for a short time, they did their own thing. But not with Moriah. She’s back. She’s back with God. So it’s awesome to see.”
Moriah also reflected on her evolving relationship with her father, noting that they had become closer recently. She explained that, amid all the drama, she realized how her father had always been there for her “no matter what.”
“I’ve really leaned on my dad a lot this past few months because I was really struggling with the situation with Ethan and Olivia,” she said. “I realized he was one of the few people that was there for me no matter what and didn’t judge me.”
