Jason Mraz celebrates his former collaborator, Taylor Swift, ahead of the upcoming Dancing with the Stars episode.
The “I’m Yours” singer, who performed with Swift, 33, during the beginning of her career, shares what it’s like to watch the evolution of her career before the Swift-themed Nov. 21 episode.
“You want to see any artist do well, especially an artist that you may have crossed paths with at some point,” says Mraz, 46. “And it’s been amazing to watch her career grow from singer-songwriter to global phenom.”
Mraz adds, “I’m sure it’s a high honor for her to see her music themed on this show. And I’m tickled to be on the show dancing to all this music.”
The official Instagram account for the competition series hinted that Mraz and dancer Daniella Karagach will perform an Argentine Tango for their Swift-inspired dance.
Swift week is not Mraz’s only favorite DWTS night. “I liked Motown night and I loved music video night. I also loved most memorable year,” he tells. “There’s been so many good ones.”
As Mraz and Karagach, 30, are nearing the end of the competition — which concludes on Dec. 5 — Mraz admits how sometimes he feels “fatigued from the daily grind.”
“It’s become a day job and that’s something I never thought I would have. So I know my partner’s frustrated with me for that,” says Mraz.
Karagach then rejects Mraz’s statement. “That’s not true,” she admits. “I just think we’re so exhausted mentally, physically.”
She also shares and celebrates their success in making it to the top six. “We’re still here, which is amazing,” Karagach says.
Mraz tells how the season 32 contestants have become like a family — despite their competition against each other. “I love Harry [Jowsey]. I love Barry [Williams]. I love Allison [Hannigan]. This is less of a competition here and we’re really cheering each other on.”
“You don’t want to see the elimination part,” admits the singer. “I wish we didn’t have to do that. You want to see everyone do well and we’re always surprised when anyone goes.”
Dancing with the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
