Orion and Lauren are not on the same page when it comes to intimacy in their marriage.
In a sneak peek of Wednesday’s episode of Married at First Sight, Orion, 27, tells his wife Lauren, 31, that sex was taken “off the table for me” after she reveals that she was last intimate two months ago.
“Alright, what’s next? Sex is done,” Lauren says, taken aback by Orion’s admission. She shuts down the conversation and attempts to move onto a different topic. The newlyweds then exchange uncomfortable glances until Orion notes Lauren’s change in demeanor.
“It felt mildly judgy,” she admits. “And it’s like, why did that make that the reason that sex was not an option?”
Orion claims that her sexual history wasn’t the “reason” he didn’t feel comfortable being intimate, but acknowledges that the information “plays a part” in his decision making.
“I still feel like there’s a lot of steps of getting to know each other. So that you know, it’s not something we would regret,” he explains. “And it could just be my own opinion about it, but I just want to take the right steps in the marriage. I don’t want sex to be a checked off thing with it.”
Lauren, confused by Orion’s stance on sex, confesses that “things you say don’t necessarily align with this conversation that I feel like we’re having.”
“And if you’re not aware of your flip flopping, I think we should just have a quiet meal,” she shrugs and shuts down the conversation for the second time. “I have nothing else to add about sex. I think I would appreciate quietness.”
The couple sit in awkward silence until Orion admits he’s “not really good with the quietness.” Despite her partner’s desire to talk out their differences, Lauren claims she has no intentions of beating a “dead horse” when neither of them have anything “conducive” or “constructive” to say.
As Orion continues to push for the conversation, Lauren breaks into tears and tells him she doesn’t “feel safe.”
“Why does that not speak to you?” she fires back. “You keep asking me ‘Well, why can we do it right now?’ I think this is a valuable conversation too and clearly one that needs more conversation. Like we need ample time to discuss this.”
Orion tries to make amends and tells Lauren he’s sorry if she “felt” he was “pressing” during their talk, but she interrupts him and calls him out for his apathetic attempt at “sorry.”
“I don’t need an ‘I’m sorry if you felt’ apology and you know, damn well that’s not an apology to give someone,” she says. “You are more mature than that to say ‘I’m sorry if you felt.’”
The sex talk finally comes to a halt when Orion replies, “Then I guess I really have nothing else to say.”
