Only Murders in the Building didn’t just bring Selena Gomez her first-ever Emmy nominations — it also brought her two friends for life.
Gomez, 31, stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in the Hulu series, and she shared a sweet collection of photos with her costars on Instagram Sunday, showing just how deeply their affection for each other goes.
The out-of-the-blue post included some photos from the show’s set of Gomez with Martin, 78, and Short, 73, including one where she’s snuggled up to Martin’s side as they walk, and another where she holds bunny ears up behind the two actors’ heads.
Gomez also shared some cute shots of her hugging both of her castmates at different events, along with a photo of her with Short on a red carpet, cracking up at something he presumably said. She captioned the post, “Trio.”
The show’s Instagram account showed some love on the post as it commented, “BFFs ❤️.” Hulu joined in, too, writing, “this friendship 🥹.”
Since the show premiered in 2021, Gomez and her costars have formed a tight-knit bond, and the Rare Beauty founder toldin June that she’s picked up a thing or two from her veteran scene partners.
“They’ve helped sharpen my skills,” she said of the pair’s impressive comedic history. “I hope to be as funny as they are one day. They are just really gifted at creating a situation out of nothing and making people laugh and I admire that deeply.”
Before she had started filming the show, she shared that she “was worried that I’d be a little lonely because I’d be on set and most of the time I would be with Steve and Marty,” but her concerns were quickly put to rest.
“The moment I got on set they made me feel included. They asked questions about my character and they valued my opinion. Eventually they kind of just took me under their wing and picked on me and made me laugh and had words of wisdom when I needed them. All of the fear of me feeling like I would be alone went away, and now they’re my guys,” Gomez said.
She added of Short and Martin, “I was just watching videos of them and I got emotional because I’m like, ‘Those are my guys.’ Some of my best friends are 70-year-olds.”
As for what the decorated actors thought about her prior to meeting her, Short told that working with Gomez has been seamless from the get-go.
“Right away — from the first second we started to the makeup room — it was, like, fabulous,” he said, sharing that he had his concerns prior to that.
“The first day we shot, I had never met Selena. Because of COVID, we’d only Zoomed,” he recalled. “And I was driving to work and I thought, I wonder what Selena could be like? I mean, she could be a nightmare. She could be a pop princess nightmare.”
Instead, she’s professional — she’s “always on time, always knows her lines” — and continues to impress Short.
“So good, so talented, such a pro,” he raved of his co-star. “It’s fabulous.”
