The 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way couples (plus plenty of less familiar faces) came together as the first episode of season 5’s tell-all episode aired on Monday when.
Series alums like Tim Malcolm, Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh, Kalani Faagata, Andrei Castravet and Tania Maduro appeared as alumni with “connections to the couples,” and season 5 duo Julio and Kirsten — who hadn’t been featured on the series since August — also appeared to update viewers on their long-distance love story.
It all began in typical, tell-all fashion, with the jaded couples meeting face to face, both in-person and virtually, to reveal their current gripes and relationships statuses. Here’s what each couple revealed on night one of the tell all — and what it means for their connection moving forward.
Brandan and Mary
Though Brandan is a U.S. citizen, he wasn’t present at the New York City tell-all taping because the pair just welcomed a baby! Brandan and Mary ‘s bundle of joy is here, and they appeared thrilled to share the good news.
They’ve welcomed a daughter named Midnight, which Brandan called “a unique name.”
Daniele and Yohan
It’s really over for Daniele and Yohan. The pair confirmed they’re still separated since their blowout, Christmas breakup seen on the series. Daniele also threatened that she came to the tell all with receipts of Yohan’s wrongdoings.
Kimberly and TJ
It’s never been all rainbows and butterflies for married couple Kimberly and TJ. They were still going strong at the filming — but not without their share of struggles. “Nobody told me how much marriage sucks, and it does,” Kimberly said in an interview. “Living with TJ’s family is just as you would expect. I don’t think that they care to understand my perspective.”
Nothing had changed about their living situation. She was still sharing space on the upper floor of TJ’s family home in India. Kimberly also shared that TJ took out a seven-year loan to refurbish the space, something she’s only recently learned of. “I thought that I should have been informed about that,” she said, adding she “still has no idea” how much the loan offered. TJ then revealed it was around $12,000.
“In his tradition, he only vows to let me know about properties and financial decisions after marriage,” Kimberly said.
Jenny and Sumit then video conferenced in to chat with Kimberly and TJ about their own transition to life in India. Jenny had strong words for Kimberly, who has been unable to fully adjust to the cultural traditions. “First of all, Kimberly to me seemed very unappreciative of everything. What she got was amazing to me and she didn’t — she appreciated nothing,” Jenny said. “Her saying, ‘I hate India’ — it broke my heart.”
When Jenny encouraged Kimberly to “respect India or don’t be here,” Kimberly replied, “I don’t want to, darling.” While Kimberly laughed at the exchange, Jenny tried to have the last word. “You are very entitled little spoiled brat is what you are.”
Kimberly ended the argument by calling Jenny a “c — -.” (Later in the episode, Kenny asked Kimberly in confidence if she regretted the word choice saying “you should,” but Kimberly had “zero remorse.”)
Replaying a recent, screaming match between Kimberly and TJ, he reflected on Kimberly before they were married. “I never saw that tension, that aggression and that voice ever before that,” he said. “It was also new for me.” Kimberly also reflected on another argument in which the told TJ “I he needed to get off his mom’s tit.”
Holly and Wayne
Holly has really made the move back to America. As of filming the tell-all, it had been four months since Holly left her husband in South Africa.
“It hasn’t been fun, that’s for sure,” Wayne said while appearing virtually. “And yeah, we’ve lost a bit of contact. It’s been a bit strange.”
Julio and Kirsten
After Julio and Kirsten ended their relationship earlier this season when Julio decided he couldn’t leave America, the couple were no closer to reconciliation. Though the breakup was rough, Kirsten said she no longer has “hate feelings” for her ex, and seeing him virtually was “fine.”
Julio finally revealed that “trust issues” were behind his decision to end his relationship to Kirsten. For the first time, he alleged that Kirsten had been cheating on him. “I have a good friend that I was texting and you didn’t like that,” she said.
“When I was living there in the Netherlands, Kirsten ended up going dress shopping for this event that we had to attend. And in the gist of those photos, I see a photo of a man and I’m like, who is this? She’s like, Oh no, that’s that’s just a friend,” she said.
“When I asked her to show me the conversations and you know, them saying, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to meet your family, I can’t wait to see you.’ They’re calling each other like, you know, ‘Mami’ and ‘Papi.’ I’m like, This is extensive. The feelings are there. “
Kirsten cried in response saying, “He is literally a friend. And now you’re bringing this up as an excuse because you’re trying to save yourself?
The episode left on a cliffhanger — when Julio pulled out an audio recording of Kirsten, that he alleged would prove her infidelity.
Shekinah and Sarper
Shekinah had returned to the U.S. solo — but just for filming purposes. She was still living in Turkey with Sarper and called it the “best relationship I’ve ever been in.” They also revealed that Shekinah required Sarper to take an STD test at the start of their relationship, knowing he’d been with around 2,500 women. (And for Shekinah, that was a typical courtesy in any relationship.)
The conversation turned to Sarper’s body type rules, which previously saw him weighing his American girlfriend. He said this isn’t current habit because “she’s in good form right now.” He added, “I’m a control freak. I want her to eat what I want.”
Shekinah added, “And he’s excited to have somebody that is submissive.”
While they were apart, Sarper and Shekinah communicated via voice memo. The morning of the tell-all, Shekinah said her boyfriend had messaged her “how to behave today, how to look, you know, what to eat.”
Though the rest of the cast offered eye rolls and concern for Sarper’s strict partnership, Shekinah called it “loving and endearing.” She played a voice memo from Sarper as an example: “Hello [darling] today don’t use a dark lipstick and don’t contour. It shows your lips bigger. Sit straight. Mwah. Don’t eat too many carbs for lunch today. And if they give you any options, show it to me. Send it to me. I will choose for you.”
Shekinah insisted, “It’s all good advice, it’s reasonable though.”
Kenny disagreed, saying, “It almost feels like manipulation.” Shekinah countered, “I look at him as like my leader and he’s leading us.”
Sarper responded, “I know that she likes to be controlled. It’s her character, and mine is controlling. So we are the perfect match.”
Daniele added her two cents. “It sounds like you’re dealing with two people who, like, have really severe, like, toxic traits and they’ve decided to love each other because they both accept each other’s toxic traits.”
Shekinah also denied that Sarper expected her to be “perfect.” But another voice chimed in from off screen: “It seems like he’s grooming you.”
The tell-all also revealed Shekinah was no longer talking to her sister Shariyah after a “falling-out.” The sister declined to appear on the show but sent a video message to play. “I don’t think that Sarper is a good partner for you because I haven’t seen anything from him that makes me think that he is an honest person,” she said. “He has no respect for you. He has no respect for women. That’s not the kind of person that you want to have in your life.”
She also briefly addressed Sarper, telling him: “I feel like anything that I could say to you, you’re not going to be able to process it because you haven’t developed mentally yet.”
Shekinah updated viewers on her connection to her whole family. “Yeah, my relationship with her is done. My family is so negative. They could not be more unsupportive. And I actually don’t even talk to anyone of my family since the show.” As others expressed concern for Shekinah’s isolation she added, “It does suck that my family is now, you know, basically not in my life.”
