Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel are using their holiday party plans as a practice run for their big day!

During an exclusive interview with Property Brothers stars Drew and Jonathan Scott, Jonathan revealed the reason why he hasn’t made much wedding planning progress with fiancée Zooey Deschanel: they have a holiday bash to focus on first.

When asked about the status of their upcoming nuptials, Jonathan shared, “We’re going to get through the holidays and then we’ve got probably the ultimate party to plan.”

The Celebrity IOU builder added that the couple have a caroling party in the works, which takes precedence at the moment. After the holidays, they’ll dive into all the details for their big day.

“We’ll think of the holidays and our caroling party as just a warm-up to the big party,” he tells.

Jonathan and Deschanel are big fans of the festive season. The New Girl alum, who starred in the holiday classic Elf, is also one half of musical duo She & Him and hosts Christmas concerts that her fiancé has proudly supported. The couple even hosted the HGTV special White House Christmas alongside First Lady Jill Biden in 2022.

After four years of dating, Jonathan popped the question while the he, Zooey and her two children — daughter Elsie, 8, and son Charlie, 6 — were enjoying a trip to Scotland, confirmed at the time.

In a joint post on Instagram, Deschanel showed off her unique ring as the couple smiled for a selfie together in front of Edinburgh castle.

While Jonathan admits there aren’t many wedding details set in stone yet, he previously confirmed that their wedding will feature bagpipes.

The nod to Jonathan’s Scottish heritage is something his first wife had forbade at their ceremony. (The famous contractor married Kelsey Ully, a Las Vegas-based airline-crew scheduler, in 2007 before splitting two years later.)

“It should have been a red flag for me,” Jonathan explained while appearing on the You Made It Weird With Pete Holmes podcast in October. “We had this beautiful outdoor wedding… our friends let us use their place on a lake. It was gorgeous. But she forbade me from having bagpipes play at any point during the wedding.”

“Zooey and I have talked about the stuff that we want to do,” he added. “She knows the things that are important to me, the things that have hurt me . . . That’s what I think is so incredible — when you find somebody who knows your sensitivities, who knows what has hurt you. And they vow to never do that.”
