Chantel Everett begins to face truths about the early days of her relationship with Pedro Jimeno.
In a sneak peek at Monday’s episode of The Family Chantel, Chantel discovers Pedro lied about writing out his proposal to his ex-wife in 2016.
During a conversation between Chantel and the former couple’s mutual friend Obed Corporan, the TV personality expresses her suspicions that her ex-husband recruitedoutside help when crafting his proposal speech.
“He didn’t write his proposal to me, did he? Tell me the truth,” pleads Chantel. “Tell me the truth.”
Though Obed insists he doesn’t know the answer, Chantel presses him: “No, you need to tell me the truth. It seemed like it wasn’t his words.” She then bows her head into her hands as she takes a moment to regroup and reckon with the revelation.
As Chantel sits with the news, Obed consoles her by saying that her feelings were real. “You were in love. You are truthful to your feelings,” he says. “You shouldn’t be upset about it. And I’m sorry that you’re going through this.”
“No, because it hurts. Because I was so stupid,” Chantel says as she begins to wipe away her tears. “It’s because I was so stupid. And even that, from the beginning, it was all a lie.”
The TLC star then references how important Pedro’s proposal was to her throughout their relationship. She explains to Obed how the physical paper of his proposal “is so significant” to her.
“It was so significant to me, and I even brought it to him at the end of our marriage, I was like, ‘What about like your vows? What about when you proposed to me?” After an emotional pause, she adds, “And then like, he just told me he didn’t care about it and everything.”
Chantel concludes the conversation as she wipes away more tears and confesses to Obed how hurt she is by this piece of news. “So it’s like, it’s so hurtful to find out it wasn’t even real in the beginning.”
Fans were first introduced to Chantel and Pedro on 90 Day Fiancé. After starring on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? and 90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantined, the pair’s love story continued on their eponymous spinoff series.
The show’s latest season dives into Chantel and Pedro’s divorce. As the now-exes are both ready to move on, “accusations and old resentments make any kind of agreement no easy feat,” according to a release from TLC.
“Decisions such as selling the house, and who gets what possession, are almost impossible between the two,” the description continues. “While both believe they are on the right side of this divorce, each family is intensely feuding as they fight to defend their own.”
The Family Chantel airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
