Kim Zimmer, the 69-year-old star of the popular soap opera Guiding Light, revealed Thursday night that she has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
She made the announcement during a livestream event for Stand Up to Cancer’s “daytime stands up: a benefit for stand up to cancer - we all have a story” on May 16.
“I was diagnosed on November 6th,” she said, visibly emotional, “and I would have broken down if I didn’t have my husband, A.C., Weary, my three kids and my friends to help me.”
She went on to say that she had a double mastectomy and is scheduled to go to her final chemotherapy infusion appointment on May 21st.
“I’ve been through this before,” she added. “Reva Shayne had breast cancer in a 2006 episode of Guiding Light.”
In a 1992 storyline, Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines) discovered a small lump in her chest that turned out to be cancer.
She also attended the panel that Zimmer spoke on. In a later episode, Reva (Zimmer) chose to keep her diagnosis a secret from her family, a decision she said she did not understand.
"It's really important to have a support system around you," she said. "You need to find someone who you can talk to honestly and who will listen.
I'm a very resilient person, and I handled it the way I was supposed to," she added, noting that she would not have been as resilient without the support of her family and friends, including her doctors.
I’m here to encourage you to get your mammogram as soon as possible. If you’ve been diagnosed and need support, I encourage you to seek it out where you can and to ask your doctors as many questions as possible.
While she didn’t announce her diagnosis during the screening, she and her son, 34, appeared together in February in an interview with PEOPLE to promote their upcoming movie, “Bleeding Love.”
During the interview, Jake reflected on how his mother had always been there for him, especially when he was a teenager making his acting debut.
“I remember going on set and I felt really comfortable because she just created this really safe space for me, and I will always remember that,” Jake said.
The Quran - Chapter Adh-Dhariyat : 47 - 49
We built the universe with ˹great˺ might, and We are certainly expanding ˹it˺.
As for the earth, We spread it out. How superbly did We smooth it out!
And We created pairs of all things1 so perhaps you would be mindful.
Proofs of Allah's Oneness abound in the Creation of the Heavens and Earth
The preceding verses mentioned the reality of the Hereafter and the Judgment Day, and the punishment of those who denied the reality.
The present set of verses reaffirm the perfect power of Allah, reminding us about the reality of the Day of Resurrection and allaying the doubt and suspicion of those who deny the reality.
It proves the oneness of Allah and reiterates emphatically to believe in the Messenger ﷺ .
بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ (And the sky was built by Us with might, and indeed, We are the One who expands.... 51:47). The word aidin, according to Sayyidna Ibn ` Abbas ؓ ، means strength or power in this context.
