BJ Thompson of the Kansas City Chiefs experienced a medical emergency on June 6, 2024, suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest.
The incident occurred during a "special teams meeting" at the Chiefs' facility in Kansas City, as reported by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.
Thompson was quickly transported by ambulance to the hospital and is now in stable condition. Reports indicate that the Chiefs' medical staff responded "immediately" when Thompson began to seize.
Chris Turnage, Thompson’s agent, visited him in the hospital and provided an update on his condition, which was shared by Pelissero on social media.
At a press conference on June 7, Chiefs Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance, Rick Burkholder, detailed the emergency and provided a health update. He praised everyone involved for their quick and effective response.
Initially, head coach Andy Reid and select players were scheduled to address the media on June 6, but the conference was rescheduled to June 7 following the incident, according to an NFL statement.
The Chiefs are currently in their OTA offseason practices, which involve drills but no contact plays, and will begin their mandatory minicamp from June 11 to June 13, according to CBS.
Here’s a timeline of BJ Thompson’s medical emergency:
June 6, 2024: BJ Thompson's Cardiac Arrest
BJ Thompson, a backup defensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest on the morning of June 6 during a team meeting at the Chiefs' facility. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Thompson was transported to the hospital by ambulance and was in stable condition.
Multiple sources informed Pelissero that the Chiefs' medical staff acted "immediately" when Thompson began to seize during the "special teams meeting."
The team canceled all activities for the day, as announced on the NFL's official website. Media availability, including sessions with head coach Andy Reid and select players, was postponed to June 7.
Later that night, Pelissero tweeted an update from Thompson's agent, Chris Turnage, who had visited Thompson in the hospital: "BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he’s stable and vitals are good. His family asks for your continued prayers."
June 7, 2024: BJ Thompson Shows Improvement
On June 7, Pelissero provided another update from Turnage on Thompson's condition: "One day after Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting, the second-year pro’s prognosis is good."
This update preceded the Kansas City Chiefs' rescheduled press conference. Rick Burkholder, the Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance, shared more details about Thompson's condition.
"He’s alert, he’s awake. He’s progressing well," Burkholder stated during the live press conference.
"We don’t have a diagnosis yet, and sometimes in medicine, you don’t get one immediately," he added, noting that Thompson is "headed in the right direction."
Burkholder also praised Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker for his swift action when Thompson began seizing. "Butker immediately ran to the training room for additional assistance," Burkholder informed reporters.
"As a team, we stabilized BJ, placed him on the floor during the seizure, and then he went into cardiac arrest," Burkholder shared. Thompson received a shock from an automated external defibrillator (AED) and was in cardiac arrest for roughly a minute.
Chiefs safety Justin Reid also spoke at the press conference, commending Butker: "Harrison is that guy; he loves all of us, and we’re a family."
The Quran - Chapter Ar-Rahman : 08
so that you do not defraud the scales.
أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانِ (so that you should not be wrongful in weighing....55:8). The earlier verse stated the creation of the scale, and this verse states the reason for its creation.
The imperfect verb تَطْغَوْا tatghaw is derived from طُغیَان tughyan which stands for 'injustice'.
Thus verses [ 7] and [ 8] put together mean: '[ The 'mizan or scale' has been created so that you may not transgress the balance and thus practice injustice'.
