On Monday, June 17, rapper and musician Don Omar shared a photo of his hospital bracelet on Instagram, revealing his battle with cancer.
In his post, the 46-year-old Puerto Rican artist, whose real name is William Omar Landrón Rivera, announced his diagnosis. "Today yes, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer," he wrote in Spanish, captioning the image of his hospital wristband from an Orlando medical center. "Good intentions are well received. See you soon. #f---cancer."
This announcement came shortly after he posted an Instagram Reel on June 15, showcasing auditions from dancers for the second leg of his Back to Reggaetón Tour. "The most special thing about today’s auditions is seeing that there are people who want to dare to dream with me," Don Omar commented in the post. "Thank you to each of you who gave your all on the dance floor! This second stage of the tour comes with everything."
Don Omar, known for hits like “Guaya Guaya,” made a significant return in 2023 with his album "Forever King" and launched a 20-date Back to Reggaetón tour from March 7 to April 21, concluding at Kaseya Center in Miami. Due to high demand, he extended the tour by an additional 18 dates.
The second leg of the tour is set to begin on Wednesday, August 7, in Oakland, California, with stops in cities including San Diego, Portland, Tampa, and Newark, before wrapping up at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 14.
In December 2023, Don Omar reconciled with fellow reggaeton star Daddy Yankee, ending their long-standing feud. Both artists expressed their mutual respect and appreciation in separate social media posts. "Today we close the book that kept the best chapters of our controversial rivalry," Don Omar wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of a smiling Daddy Yankee. "Thank you for your words and for listening to mine that came from the heart as well. I wish you the best for you and your family."
He continued, "Thank you for collaborating and for competing because I did it with a titan. I keep the good memories, the laughs, the dreams together, and the desire for a last round with such a great adversary. We will meet again soon because I owe you a hug and thank you in person. In the meantime, long live King Daddy."
