Gordon Ramsay has shared an update on his recovery, nearly a week after revealing a severe bicycling accident. The 57-year-old "MasterChef" star posted an Instagram video on Friday, June 21, featuring his 5-year-old son Oscar riding his bike and wearing a helmet. In the video, Oscar says, “Dad, this is for you,” acknowledging his father's advice on helmet safety.
Ramsay, who previously described himself as looking “like a purple potato” due to the bruises from the accident, had emphasized the importance of wearing a helmet in his earlier posts. In his latest update, he shared a stroll with his 7-month-old son Jesse and expressed gratitude for the supportive messages he received, saying, “The purple potato is on the mend !!!”
Ramsay first announced the accident on Instagram on Saturday, June 15, after it occurred while he was biking in Connecticut. He reflected on his fortune in surviving the incident, sharing a video where he displayed his heavily bruised ribs and stressed the critical importance of helmet use.
“I’m lucky to be here,” he said. “It’s been a brutal week.” Ramsay strongly advocated for helmet use, not just for adults but also for children, emphasizing that even short rides require proper head protection. “I don’t care how short the journey is. I don’t care, you know, the fact that these helmets cost money … they’re crucial,” he stated.
Gordon and his wife Tana Ramsay have six children: Megan, 26; twins Holly Anna and Jack Scott, 24; Matilda (Tilly), 22; Oscar, 5; and Jesse, 7 months.
In his caption, Ramsay clarified that he did not sustain any broken bones or major injuries apart from the bruising. He expressed his appreciation for the medical staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and reiterated his gratitude for his helmet, saying it saved his life.
