"Mamie turned onto her stomach, pushed herself up, and held onto me... at that moment, we realized we could share our first hug," her mother revealed in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Mamie Laverock is celebrating a "miracle birthday" as she continues her journey to recovery.
On Tuesday, July 9, Mamie's mother, Nicole Rockmann, shared an update on Facebook, the day after the When Calls the Heart actress—who fell five stories from a hospital balcony in May—celebrated her 20th birthday on July 8.
"Mamie turned onto her stomach, pushed herself up, and held onto me... at that moment, we realized we could share our first hug," read the post, which was accompanied by a photo of the embrace in the actress's hospital room.
"Thank you, Rob, for capturing this moment," she added, referring to her husband, Rob Compton.
"It's a miracle," Rockmann told about the moment she and her daughter could finally hug.
In an earlier post, followers got a glimpse of the sweet birthday cake Laverock's stepfather Compton had baked for her. The cake was a recreation of the When Calls the Heart church and was surrounded by multiple bouquets of flowers. "Thank you, Rob, for the beautiful homemade When Calls the Heart Cake. My miracle birthday," the caption read.
Other images in a separate post showed a delightful rainbow balloon birthday display created by artist Evelyn Milanes. "My miracle birthday... somewhere over the rainbow," the caption read. Another post featured a "personally designed stunning hospital gown" created by designer Claudia Da Pointe, with photos showing Laverock lying on her hospital bed and holding a mug.
The touching posts of the hug and Laverock's birthday come after Rockmann shared updates on her daughter's recovery on Laverock's official Facebook page on Wednesday, June 26.
“Thank you for your healing messages for Mamie,” the post began. “Mamie survived her injuries, but her road to recovery will be long. I will be setting up a mailbox for all your cards and well wishes shortly.”
She concluded the message with, “Warmth, Nicole.”
The family had previously shared updates about Laverock's recovery on the GoFundMe page created after the actress was taken to a Winnipeg hospital due to a “medical emergency” on May 11. She was then transferred to a hospital in Vancouver.
They later revealed that Laverock had been in intensive treatment for two weeks in the Canadian city after she "was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories" on May 26.
"She sustained life-threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support," the post read. "We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time."
In a further update, the family shared that Laverock's body had "been shattered" in the incident.
"She has undergone two 11-hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three-hour surgery, and another surgery today. We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26," the message read.
"Mamie is 'doing well' comparatively to when she arrived. Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up," the post added.
"We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story. Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard every day," the update concluded.
So far, the GoFundMe page has raised over $28,500 ($38,852 CAD) of a $30,000 CAD goal.
Laverock starred as Rosaleen Sullivan in nine episodes of When Calls the Heart from 2014-2023. Prior to her role on the Hallmark Channel, Laverock had her first professional role in 2012’s This Means War, starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy.
