Hozier Postpones Shows While Recovering from Recent Virus 'It Breaks My Heart to Do This'

Hozier, known for his soulful hit "Take Me to Church," has announced the postponement of a couple of upcoming tour dates to focus on recuperation.

On Monday, August 26, the Irish singer-songwriter, born Andrew Hozier-Byrne, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news with fans. At 34, Hozier made the tough call to temporarily pause his "Unreal Unearth" tour following a recent bout with a virus, which has taken a toll on his voice.

He was initially slated to perform at the First Interstate Arena in Billings, Montana, on Tuesday, August 27, followed by a show at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming, on Wednesday, August 28. However, both performances have now been rescheduled.

Before deciding to delay these shows, Hozier had graced the stage at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada, on Saturday, August 24. In his heartfelt message, he expressed deep appreciation for his fans, saying, "I want to thank each and every one of you for attending a show on this tour, especially those who have shown immense kindness and support over the past few nights while I've been struggling vocally due to a recent virus."

He continued, "Despite enjoying every moment of connecting with you all from the stage, my voice simply isn't getting the recovery time it desperately needs."

Acknowledging the disappointment this might cause, he stated, "It pains me to do this, but I must postpone the next two shows in Billings, MT (August 27), and Casper, WY (August 28), to allow my health and vocal cords the necessary time to recover, ensuring the rest of the tour goes on as planned."

Hozier reassured fans that new dates for these shows would be announced soon, urging them to keep their tickets as they would be honored for the rescheduled performances. "For those unable to attend the new dates, refunds will be available at the point of purchase," he added, expressing, "I deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your unwavering support and understanding."

Following his brief pause, Hozier is set to return to the stage at Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village, Colorado, on Friday, August 30, before continuing his U.S. leg of the tour. He is also scheduled to head to Australia, where his first performance Down Under is slated for November 5 at the RAC Arena in Perth.

These latest adjustments come on the heels of his recent release, the three-track EP "Unaired," which dropped on August 16.
