Usher Kicks Off Tour in Washington D.C. After Delay Due to Neck Injury

After a brief setback, Usher is finally embarking on his much-anticipated tour!

The 45-year-old R&B icon launched his "Past Present Future" Tour with back-to-back sold-out performances at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Aug. 20, and Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Earlier this month, Usher announced that he would be delaying the first three dates of his tour due to a neck injury sustained during rehearsals. The first show, originally scheduled for Aug. 14 in Atlanta, was postponed, followed by two additional dates the next day.

"My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be ready for opening night," Usher shared in a statement on Aug. 15. "Unfortunately, the injury hasn't healed as quickly as I had hoped, and my doctors have advised me not to perform this week."

The postponed shows have been rescheduled for Dec. 9, Dec. 10, and Dec. 12.

During the Grammy winner’s two-hour set in D.C., he thrilled fans with hits like “U Don’t Have To Call,” “Confessions,” “Yeah!,” and “Lovers and Friends.” He also treated the audience to tracks from his ninth album, "Coming Home".

At the Aug. 21 concert, Usher surprised the crowd by bringing out D.C. natives Wale, Raheem DeVaughn, and E.U.’s Sugar Bear. Wale performed “The Matrimony” and “No Hands,” while DeVaughn sang “You,” and Sugar Bear delivered a lively rendition of “Da’ Butt.”

Usher’s next stop on the tour is in Baltimore, where he’ll perform at the CFG Bank Arena on Aug. 23 and 24. The North American leg of the tour will wrap up with a three-night stint in Atlanta in December.

The European leg of the "Past Present Future" Tour is set to begin on March 29 at London’s The O2 Arena. After eight nights in London, Usher will perform in Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin before returning to London to conclude the tour in May.

Usher announced the career-spanning tour in December 2023, shortly after wrapping up his "My Way: The Las Vegas Residency".

In February, he released his ninth studio album, "Coming Home", and took the stage at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show. During the performance, he was joined by musical guests Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am, Lil Jon, and Ludacris at the NFL championship game in Las Vegas.
