The spotlight will be on Jamie Foxx this October in Atlanta, where he is set to deliver his “unforgettable one-man show” titled "One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx". The event will unfold over three nights, from October 3 to 5, with details on ticket availability to be announced soon.
On Monday, September 2, the Academy Award-winning actor took to Instagram to share more about this upcoming performance, where he plans to open up about his life-changing health scare with a mix of humor, heart, and inspiration.
Foxx's announcement featured a simple black image with the words "WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS," and in the caption, he elaborated on the concept of the show: “Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and engaging performance, as he opens up about his struggles, triumphs, and everything in between,” the 56-year-old actor wrote. He promised audiences “a night of laughter, reflection, and genuine connection.”
Foxx’s news was met with excitement in the comments, with Chance the Rapper declaring, "I'm there," and Questlove adding, "Damn, I might have to roll to this jawn."
This revelation comes half a year after Foxx hinted at discussing his health struggles in an upcoming comedy special while attending the 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards, where he accepted the Producers Award for his company, Foxxhole Productions. "Everyone wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you, but in my own way,” he said at the event.
Foxx’s health ordeal began in April 2023, while he was in the middle of shooting the Netflix film "Back in Action". He experienced a "medical complication" that left him out of the public eye for several months. However, he and co-star Cameron Diaz were spotted back on set in January, and Netflix recently announced that the movie will be available for streaming starting January 17.
Just before his appearance at the AAFCA Awards in March, Foxx expressed his desire to return to stand-up comedy. He posted a clip from his 2002 HBO special "I Might Need Security" on Instagram, writing, "Going to get on somebody’s stage somewhere near you. I got some jokes, and a story to tell ... "
In July, Foxx shed more light on the mysterious illness that landed him in the hospital, recounting to a crowd at an outdoor café in Phoenix that he had suffered from a “bad headache” and had asked a friend for an Advil. “I was gone for 20 days,” he said, snapping his fingers, “I don’t remember anything.”
He further revealed, “They told me — I’m in Atlanta — that my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor,” referring to his sister, Deidra Dixon, and daughter, Corinne Foxx. “They gave me a cortisone shot,” he explained, noting that the injection is often used to "relieve pain, swelling, and irritation."
Pointing to his head, Foxx continued, “The next doctor said something’s going on up there. I won’t say it on camera. But it was...," he said, shrugging as the video clip came to an end.
The Quran - Chapter Al-Haqqah : 48- 51
Indeed, this ˹Quran˺ is a reminder to those mindful ˹of Allah˺.
And We certainly know that some of you will persist in denial,
and it will surely be a source of regret for the disbelievers.
And indeed, this ˹Quran˺ is the absolute truth.
