Lady Gaga has recently shared that she is now “pain-free” after years of battling fibromyalgia, a condition that led her to self-medicate with marijuana for relief.
In her October cover story for "Vogue", the 38-year-old star of "Joker: Folie à Deux" reflected on how her 2022 Chromatica Ball tour marked a significant turning point. “It was the first time I’ve performed without pain in… I can’t even remember when,” she admitted.
The singer of "Die with a Smile" has been open about her struggle with fibromyalgia, a condition described by the Mayo Clinic as one that causes widespread muscle pain, tenderness, fatigue, and issues related to sleep, memory, and mood. “Fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by altering the way the brain and spinal cord process both painful and nonpainful signals,” the Mayo Clinic notes.
Her journey with the disorder was candidly depicted in her 2017 documentary, "Gaga: Five Foot Two", where she shared how marijuana had become a way for her to manage her symptoms. That same year, a severe pain episode led to the cancellation of a performance in Brazil and her subsequent hospitalization.
According to "Vogue", Gaga's battle with fibromyalgia dates back to 2013, when she fractured her hip, an injury that forced her to cancel several tour dates and undergo surgery.
However, the Chromatica Ball tour, coupled with the support of her now-fiancé, Michael Polansky, marked a pivotal moment in her healing journey. “Michael and I did that tour together,” Gaga told the magazine. “I did it pain-free! I haven’t smoked pot in years. I’ve, like, transformed.”
She added, “A lot,” hinting at the direction of her upcoming seventh album. “I feel this new album reflects that period, but from a place of joy instead of suffering. Now, Michael and I are thrilled to shape our lives—and our future marriage—around our shared creativity.”
Gaga continued to reflect, “For so much of my career, my life was dictated by this industry: the expectations, the aspirations others had for me, the need to keep me on this path. That kind of pressure can be daunting, even terrifying."
"But I feel like I’m finally emerging on the other side.”

distressed when touched with evil,
