"I’ve never been healthier or happier from the inside out," Hough wrote on her Instagram Stories
Julianne Hough wants fans to know she has "never been healthier or happier from the inside out."
The Dancing with the Stars alum, 36, addressed her fans' concerns after she posted a "Sunday Spa Day 👯♀️" clip on Instagram on Sept. 29. In the video, Hough dances around in a bikini in the sauna wearing a black hat and red light therapy mask. She playfully jumps on a trampoline outside.
The next day, Hough posted a lengthy update responding to critics who said her behavior in the video was "weird." Some asked if she was OK.
"I don’t usually address comments like this but I’m going to say a few things about this video," she wrote on her Instagram Stories.
She responded to fans' questions one by one: The black hat is "a protective cap from the heat as to not burn my hair," she said, adding that it is known as a "banya hat." She also described why she chose to do red light therapy, saying it's "incredible for you and might as well kill two birds with one stone while you are in the sauna."
Additionally, "the trampoline was a new try for me today at my [friend's] house - this is their routine - sauna, cold plunge, jump," she said. "It’s for your lymphatic system which promotes lymphatic drainage which helps protect the body from disease and infection."
Hough explained that "a bikini is the best outfit for these activities."
She then expanded on her current mental and physical health. "My body has never been healthier - I was full of inflammation in my [20s] and had a marker for an [autoimmune] that I addressed and committed to over a year and a half ago," Hough said.
"I’ve frozen my eggs over the last few years which also shifts the body fluctuation. I’ve never been healthier or happier from the inside out," she continued. "Grief, loss. Sadness and fear also get stored in the body and we hold on to that in different ways. I made it a huge priority to accept, express, process and release a lot of emotions over the years."
Hough also noted that the "playful" side shown in the video is her "most authentic version."
"I saw somewhere that when kids are the most playful and can be the most strange and weird versions of themselves it means they are the safest to do so," she said.
"My playful goofy side is a reflection of how safe I feel in my own skin and with the people around me. Everyone who is close to me knows this side of me means I am the most free in [judgment] of myself and from others."
The former America's Got Talent judge then responded to followers who were "genuinely concerned" to see this "unusual" side of her. "I understand that what you don’t understand feels unfamiliar and sometimes scary," she said.
"I’m going to continue feeling safe within myself regardless of the outpouring of your comments, and have fun with life which can be really heavy and challenging. So why not be playful and laugh and enjoy the journey instead of taking everything so seriously."
She concluded her post, signing off with: "Sending love, light and playful energy your way 💕."
Hough has been vocal in the past about her health journey, speaking about her endometriosis diagnosis, her experience with depression and anxiety, along with her workout routine.
