- Brooklinn Khoury lost her upper lip and part of her nose in a pit bull attack in 2020.
- Surgeons could not reattach her lip — it was ultimately discarded in the trash.
- She is now recovering from her final reconstructive surgery and looking forward to resuming her active lifestyle.
“I get this question asked a lot, and to be honest with you, I actually just found out where my lip went,” Khoury explained.
According to her, by the time she reached the hospital, her lip had been sitting on ice for over six hours, leaving it too damaged to save.
“When the surgeon finally came, he said he was not able to reattach it,” she shared. “Every surgeon works differently. My doctor now said he would have been able to reattach it. But there is always a chance that I would die.”
Khoury then revealed the shocking outcome: “My lip was thrown out in the trash.”

Despite the difficult truth, she said she has made peace with it.
“Am I sad about it? Not really. Everything does happen for a reason, but it does give me a weird feeling that a piece of me is in the trash,” she added.
Healing and Moving Forward
Khoury later posted the TikTok to her Instagram, writing:
“The plastic surgeon at the emergency room wasn't able to reattach my lip. Crazy thought about where it ended up, but everything happens for a reason.”
Her resilience has been evident throughout her journey. In recent weeks, Khoury has shared her excitement on social media as she recovers from what she hopes will be her final reconstructive surgery.
Before the procedure, she told:
“Basically, my doctor is recreating the top lip in this surgery — creating a Cupid's bow and central columns. So kind of making my lip look more aesthetic. My doctor’s very cautious and wants to do everything perfectly.”
Though recovery has been long and challenging, Khoury said her mindset has changed dramatically since the attack. She no longer obsesses over small imperfections and instead embraces the present moment.
“Of course there's the excitement of seeing how I look and also seeing a bit of myself from before [the attack],” she shared. “But I'm just excited to hopefully be done and start with life again.”
Looking ahead, the athlete says she can’t wait to return to the lifestyle she loves — filled with skating, surfing, and outdoor adventures.
“We’re almost at the finish line,” she said.
