In Georgia, a couple killed After Plane Crash 'Doing What They Loved'

According to their relatives, a plane disaster in Georgia took the lives of a couple who had a passion for aviation.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) said that a small plane carrying the couple crashed soon after 2:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday in Watkinsville.

According to a statement acquired by HotGossipNewz from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the single-engine Cessna 177B landed in a field southwest of Athens Ben Epps Airport.

In a statement released by the sheriff's office on Friday, family members named the fatalities as Robert Denton, 76, and Sandra Denton, 75.

"We are devastated," they said, stressing that they were "both seasoned pilots."

"While they were taken from us far too soon, we find comfort in knowing they were together and doing what they loved, flying," the family continued.

According to the statement, Robert and Sandra were flying from Leesburg, Fla., to Winder, Ga., in their family's plane at the time of the tragedy.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Oconee County Sheriff James Hale stated that the plane was destroyed upon impact.

According to their family, Robert and Sandra were "beloved residents" of Williamsburg and Clare, Michigan, as well as The Villages retirement community in Florida.

"Robert and Sandra lived life to the fullest and were two of the most thoughtful and loving people you could know," stated family members. "We are deeply grateful to Robert and Sandra's many friends and neighbours for their outpouring of support for our family."

According to the sheriff's office, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the collision.
