Dating in a small town comes with its challenges — and drama.
Cue Hulu’s new series Love in Fairhope, for debut the trailer. The series follows five women in Fairhope, Alabama, as they look for love at different stages in their lives. Love in Fairhope describes itself as “a uniquely unscripted series that expands upon the conventional boundaries of the genre by embracing a bit of Hollywood magic.”
“This is the story of five women in a small town where your dating app comes up empty after two swipes,” narrator Heather Graham says in the trailer.
The series allows real people to star in a story inspired by their own lives where fantasy and reality collide and aims to answer the question, “If you were given the chance to bring your fantasy love story to life on TV, how would it look?” Love in Fairhope stars Abby Mannich, Claiborne Walsh, LaShoundra Young, Mya Jo Williams and Olivia Ogletree. While their journeys don’t often intersect on the show, their search for romance in small town Alabama unites them.
“When it comes down to it, we all want the same thing: real, true love,” says Graham, 53.
Mannich, 33, returns to Fairhope after dreaming of living in the big city. She reconnects with her bad boy ex Trevor but doesn’t want to repeat her past mistakes and commits to a path of soul-searching.
“I love love,” Mannich declares in the trailer.
Artist and poet Walsh, 76, finds herself widowed following 55 years of marriage. With the help of her single friends and daughter Aleen, she navigates modern dating in her 70s.
“I would like to find somebody that can make me laugh,” Walsh shares.
Young, the town’s pastor’s wife, decides to divorce her husband Kendall because he made a few risky business decisions that impacted their family. Now the 41-year-old is settling into single motherhood and seeing if new love waits in Fairhope.
“I am afraid of being in a new relationship,” Young says in the trailer.
Following college graduation, Williams, 21, settles back into her hometown of Fairhope hoping that her childhood crush Nick sees her as more than a friend. Unfortunately for Williams, she learns that he has a new girlfriend. However, her high school boyfriend Kirk unexpectedly returns to Fairhope, causing a love triangle to form in the small town.
Lastly, 32-year-old Ogletree, the daughter of town socialite and real estate mogul Paige Dawson, embarks a same-sex relationship with Tori after deciding to pursue starting a family on her own. Of course, her choices raise some eyebrows in the Bible Belt of America.
“The truth is, love is complicated,” Graham concludes in the trailer.
Love in Fairhope premieres Sept. 27 on Hulu.
