Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke have officially called it quits.
After getting engaged in August 2022 and planning to tie the knot this fall in Mexico, the Summer House stars have called off their engagement and canceled their nuptials.
In a letter to family and friends, Radke, 38, announced the news and apologized for any confusion or inconvenience this may cause.
“Words cannot possibly express how difficult the last two weeks have been for Lindsay and I,” he wrote. “We are so incredibly sorry to all of our guests for the confusion and lack of communication. We were left trying to figure out how this all exactly happened before we could even have the opportunity to determine the path forward amongst ourselves.”
“There have been a lot of false narratives and misunderstandings that have made this all the more painful but sadly at this time we are not moving forward with the wedding,” Radke continued. “The fact of the matter is Lindsay is devastated and I’m crushed with how all this transpired. I graciously ask for some patience and grace to heal and recover while we navigate this extremely difficult time.”
Acknowledging that their guests’ “commitment of money and time was already a lot,” Radke noted, “I don’t take [this] lightly. We are super grateful for the love and support you have shown us and will do what I can to help with any costs associated with changing plans.”
Radke then discussed the alternative plans that their loved ones could pursue, including still going to Mexico for a vacation or canceling their reservations altogether, before concluding his note.
“I’m sorry again this has become such a mess,” he wrote. “Thanks for your unconditional love and support during this tough time. Will be in touch with further updates. With love, Carl”
In mid-August, Hubbard celebrated her bridal shower at Cathédrale restaurant in New York City with her costars Amanda Batula, Danielle Olivera, Ciara Miller, Gabby Prescod and Sam Feher in attendance.
“I have such an amazing group of girlfriends that were not going to let me get away without having a bridal shower,” Hubbard told. “They’ve been in my life for such a long time and they’ve been on this crazy roller coaster of a journey to find love with me right by my side through every single relationship. I feel so lucky and blessed to have the girlfriends that I have and to be able to celebrate the biggest moment of my life with them before that next chapter. It’s just such a special treat to be able to do that.”
Radke surprised Hubbard, 37, at the end of the shower, later posting on Instagram: “You are going to make such a beautiful bride.”
Hubbard told at the time she and Radke had been finalizing wedding details. “It’s so sweet to see Carl as we keep checking to-dos off of our list and as it’s getting closer,” she said. “We are literally three months away at this point, and it’s going to go by so fast. And then next thing you know, I’m going to be walking down the aisle.”
In July, went wedding dress shopping with Hubbard at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City.
“Really, all I want is for Carl to cry, when I’m walking down the aisle, and get a boner when he sees me at the reception because isn’t that what we always want as a bride; cry, and then get a boner, and we’re good?” she joked.
Radke proposed to Hubbard at Southampton’s Dune Beach last summer after less than one year of dating while filming Summer House season 7.
“I’m really happy with how it turned out,” Radke told at the time. “She means everything to me, and I wanted it to be something that was reflective of my love for her and how excited I am to take the next step.”
Radke popped the question with a Nicole Rose ring featuring a 3.5-carat square brilliant cut cushion with two half-moon diamonds on the side (making the ring 4.02 carats total).
“It’s a whole lot of love,” Hubbard said. “It’s very clear, if you look at this finger, that this man loves me so much.”
Some of the couple’s costars thought Hubbard and Radke, who met in 2016 on season 1 of Summer House, got engaged too quickly.
“There’s no playbook,” he said in an confessional interview during season 7. “ There’s no rules about when you’re supposed to get engaged. I’m just going for what feels right in my heart. This is the biggest decision I’ll ever make in my life. I just know that I’m happy. I’m in love. I want to take this next step with my best friend. Is it quick? Maybe, but I see a future here, and I want to make that more official.”
In May 2022, Hubbard shared with fans on Instagram that she had begun the process of freezing her eggs by starting hormone injections.
“I finally found a couple of weeks/time to sit still enough in NYC to follow through with the egg freezing process! 🙌🏼” Hubbard said. “Right now, I’m on my 3rd day of hormone injections (I started on Friday) and it’s really not so bad… but I have about another week to go, so we’ll see lol!”
During the sixth season of Summer House, Hubbard talked about exploring the option.
“I’ve been thinking and talking about freezing my eggs for a while,” she shared. “I settled in the past and I was forcing something because I was up against my own timeline. If I could just stop the biological clock and eliminate that as part of my process of choosing a partner, then maybe I can find somebody who is actually meant for me.”
Hubbard has since praised Radke for being “a rock” during her egg freezing, as well as when she told him she’d had a miscarriage with former Winter House costar Jason Cameron.
“He was amazing and so, so sweet. He took me to acupuncture to help relieve any stress and tension … and took me to my actual procedure, brought me home,” she recalled. “He also booked us a night at the spa after my [egg] retrieval, where he got us massages. He’s been extremely, extremely supportive.”
Summer House can be streamed in full on Peacock.
