The Summer I Turned Pretty's Gavin Casalegno Teases Season 3 Will Finish the Story and Says Filming Is Imminent

Gavin Casalegno is giving fans a long awaited update on season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

The actor, 24, opened up about the things he was looking forward to when the cast reunites in Cousins Beach and finishes off author Jenny Han's epic love triangle between Isabel "Belly" Conklin (Lola Tung) and Fisher brothers Jeremiah (Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney).

˹He is˺ Highly Exalted in rank, Lord of the Throne. He sends down the revelation by His command to whoever He wills of His servants to warn ˹all˺ of the Day of Meeting—

"I think everyone is excited for season 3. To finish the story — at least what Jenny's vision is — I think that'll be super fun," he told Entertainment Tonight of the Prime Video series. "I think we're all looking forward to just being back together. We always have so much fun on the beaches, playing volleyball, going to cool restaurants, and trying out new spots. We're excited to get back together."

Casalegno also shared he was expecting to return to set sometime in March, but has "zero idea of a script."

"I don't even know. It could even be, like, filming in October or July. I'm just going off rumors," he added. "Sometime this year. Hopefully soon. I hope. That's all I got for you."

The upcoming season will likely follow Han’s third and final novel in the franchise, We'll Always Have Summer. The book takes place two years after the events of It’s Not Summer Without You as Belly once again finds herself questioning where her heart lies between the Fisher brothers — only in the third book, she finally makes a decision. At the end of season 2, fans saw Belly definitively choose Jeremiah over Conrad after the gang saved the Fisher's Cousins Beach house after Suzannah Fisher's death.

Though season 2 strays from the books in various ways, with the cast in June 2023, they all reiterated that a third season would likely follow the third book as much as possible.

"I know Jenny is really just strong on staying as true to the books as possible and hitting the main points," Casalegno told.

Tung added, "There's so many different ways you could go about it. There's a blueprint of a book, which we've been lucky to have for two seasons now, just such a solid blueprint for us, and to have Jenny on set with us has been incredible."

Following the season 2 finale in August, Han kept things close to the vest about how everything would play out for Belly and the Fisher brothers — including how it would differ from the book's ending.

However, she told that she originally “went into the show with an open mind” about how she could “explore new stories” while still honoring fans of the books.

“To me, the fun of the show is to watch it and be able to experience it as the story is meant to be told, which is where you're not sure of the ending,” she explained. “It's kind of the pain and the pleasure of storytelling is when I go to the movies, I don't want to know the ending. I really want to be surprised and I want to be on that journey, even though it does cause me anxiety as I'm watching.”

The first two seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty can be streamed on Prime Video.
