Anne Hathaway Says She Was a ‘Chronically Stressed Young Woman’: 'I Didn't Know How to Breathe Yet'

Anne Hathaway Says She Was a ‘Chronically Stressed Young Woman’ 'I Didn't Know How to Breathe Yet'

Anne Hathaway recently opened up about her journey to relaxation as she has matured. Speaking with David Marchese on The New York Times podcast The Interview, the 41-year-old actress reflected on her earlier roles and how they mirrored her own personal stress.

Hathaway acknowledged that she often portrayed "chronically stressed out young women" on screen because she was similarly stressed in her personal life. Recalling her younger self, she admitted, "I was a really stressed out young woman."

The realization of the fragility of life prompted Hathaway to reassess her approach. She remembered thinking, "You are taking this for granted, you are taking your life for granted." This epiphany compelled her to adopt a more relaxed attitude, especially when stressors arose. "You are not gonna die stressed," she tells herself when old instincts resurface.

When Marchese inquired about the source of her stress, Hathaway, now a mother of two, confessed, "I didn't know how to breathe yet. And that was really complicated. That was really, really complicated not knowing how to breathe." This revelation highlights the importance of self-awareness and self-care in managing stress and finding inner peace.

Anne Hathaway reflected on her past experiences in Hollywood, admitting that "literally everything" in her life as a young woman in the industry stressed her out at one point. She described herself as being very much "in her head" about various matters during that time.

Hathaway further explained that she experienced "somatic" stress, meaning she felt physical symptoms of tension in her body, not just in her mind.

In a recent Vanity Fair interview, the WeCrashed star disclosed that she has been sober for about five years. She acknowledged on The Interview podcast that she "probably" used alcohol as a coping mechanism for her stress.

Reflecting on her decision to quit drinking, Hathaway expressed that sobriety has significantly improved her life. She described alcohol as "wallowing fuel" and expressed a preference for clarity over the temporary relief it provided. She believes in the ability to enjoy social situations without alcohol and avoids the hangover that comes with it.

Anne Hathaway shared with David Marchese on the podcast that the key to her transformation into a more relaxed person was finding a positive sense of settlement in her life, which she described as a beautiful concept of surrender. She also mentioned that she has learned to practice gratitude more frequently.

Though she didn't delve into specifics, Hathaway expressed a significant realization that being overly critical of herself wasn't conducive to achieving her goals in life. She described experiencing a moment of clarity, indicating that she had a shift in perspective.

For individuals struggling with substance abuse, Hathaway's journey serves as an example of positive change and seeking help when needed. If you or someone you know is facing similar challenges, reaching out to resources like the SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-662-HELP can provide support and guidance.

The Quran - Chapter Al-Ahqaf : 09 - 10

Say, “I am not the first messenger ever sent, nor do I know what will happen to me or you. I only follow what is revealed to me. And I am only sent with a clear warning.”

Ask ˹them, O  Prophet˺, “Consider if this ˹Quran˺ is ˹truly˺ from Allah and you deny it, and a witness from the Children of Israel attests to it and then believes, whereas you act arrogantly. Surely Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.”

The Makkan polytheists regarded the Jews, whom they often met on trading expeditions, as a community of prophets and therefore very learned in religious disciplines.

When the Prophet Muhammad had become a controversial personality in Makkah, a number of these polytheists made enquiries of certain Jews about him.

In the meantime a Jewish scholar told them that, according to their books, a prophet was due to appear in those parts, and that he (Muhammad) might be that very prophet.

Evidently, this Jew had indirectly accepted the prophethood of Muhammad. The events of history had already proved that God’s messengers do appear along with God’s books.

It was written in ancient divine scriptures that such a messenger was due to appear among the Ishmaelites.

In the life and sayings of the Prophet of God, all those signs were clearly found that signalled prophethood.

In the face of such signs and portents, those who denied the prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad were not doing so on any rational grounds, but simply because, by accepting one who had hitherto been an ordinary individual in their eyes as the prophet of God, they would be damaging their own high position.

Those who are more concerned with their own pride and prestige than with the Truth, will always be led in the wrong direction by their warped mindset.
