The singer said she plans to "love what I’m working with" in a powerful Instagram post
Singer Rachel Platten sounded off on her struggle to lose her pregnancy weight in a powerful Instagram message, saying she’s “honestly sick of trying to keep shrinking myself back to pre-baby weight.”
In the emotional Oct. 21 post, the “Fight Song” singer — who shares daughters Sophie Jo, 2, and Violet Skye, 5, with husband Kevin Lazan — wrote, “Note to self — and anyone else who needs it. I am not less worthy of love just because I can’t seem to lose those last 5 or 10 pounds of ‘baby weight.’ I’ve tried it ALL and my body is begging for my acceptance.”
“I am stronger than ever, I am so healthy, I can dance and lift weights and carry my girls and move and live a full beautiful life.”
As for continuing to try to lose weight, Platten, 43, had this to say: “F— it.”
“I’m not waiting to approve of myself when I’m thinner,” Platten continued, sharing she plans to “give away those jeans I've been waiting to fit into again and just buy some bigger ones and love what I’m working with.”
“If you’re with me, tell me in the comments below because I know I’m not alone in this.”
In the caption for the text post, the "Girls" singer wrote, “Can’t we just love ourselves as we are?! Enough of this already. Give me a 💪🏽 if you’re with me” — and her comments were full of the flexing emoji.
“I am over the number on the scale it does not mean anything. I am focused on strength, function and power. Strong women of all sizes are beautiful. 💪 ❤️💪” wrote one fan, while another said, “Ohhh Rachel. I feel this so deeply. My 46 year old body is just not what she used to be… but I am done treating her like she is separate from me.”
Platten also shared to her Instagram stories a private message from someone who reflected on how the “dad bod” was seen as appealing — but "mom bods" need to be corrected.
“The dads did not stretch and grow and birth a baby yet, the dad bod was accepted and trending, holy bananas. I had never seen one thing talking about how sexy “mom bod” was and thought things were really backwards since they were the ones who grew the miracle of a child.”
“This this this,” commented Platten, who added, “Who will help us make the mom bod a thing?!!!”
