Kaitlyn Dever Attempts to Break Up Romeo and Juliet in First Trailer For Hulu's Rosaline

Dopesick actress Kaitlyn Dever plays a girl attempting to break up the famous star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet in the first trailer for Rosaline, which premieres October 14 on Hulu.

The 25-year-old Emmy nominee executive produced and stars as the former flame of 16-year-old Romeo (Kyle Allen), who's horrified when he falls for her 13-year-old cousin Juliet (Isabela Merced).

'They were being all gross,' Rosaline groans to Nurse (Minnie Driver).

'And he was saying things to her that he just said to me... three days ago.'

Though never seen in William Shakespeare's 1597 tragedy, Rosaline's rejection of Romeo (due to her being sworn to chastity) is what causes his depression and brings him to Juliet.

'So you're going to break them up?' Nurse asks flatly.

Rosaline replies: 'Of course I am. Romeo and Juliet, it doesn't even sound right.'

Rosaline then enlists her friend Dario (Sean Teale), who doesn't appear in the Italian-set play, to help 'stop a wedding.'

'Juliet, why settle down with just one man when you can sample at the buffet of life?' she coyly asks.

Rosaline is then seen taking Juliet to a pub and the village men go wild after she asks: 'Who wants to buy us some drinks?'

But Juliet catches on to her scheme, exclaiming: 'All this time you just wanted to steal my boyfriend!'

Rosaline wisecracks: 'I was trying to steal him back! There's a difference.'

She's then seen chatting with Paris (Spencer Stevenson), who seeks to marry Juliet, asking whether 'all this drama is adding to the attraction.'

The preview also shows Juliet confessing her plan to fake her death by taking a magic potion to her cousin.

'That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life,' Rosaline scoffs.

However, it's too late as Juliet has already taken the potion and passes out, which will likely lead to some Weekend at Bernie's-style hijinks.

Kaitlyn won the titular role after previously attached actresses Keira Knightley, Deborah Ann Woll, Allison Williams, and Felicity Jones dropped out of the long-in-the-works project.

Karen Maine's PG-13 flick - based on Rebecca Serle's 2010 YA novel When You Were Mine - also features Bradley Whitford as Friar Laurence and Christopher McDonald as Lord Capulet.
