During an appearance on Gayle King's SiriusXM show Gayle King in the House, the 33-year-old singer discussed her experience with PCOS, a hormone imbalance that affects one out of every ten women of childbearing age.
Symptoms of the illness include irregular periods, excessive hair growth, acne, weight gain, and infertility.
"I definitely struggle with my weight and with how I look, and it's been difficult for me." I only recently discovered that I have PCOS, which affects a large number of women. And a lot of ladies have it and don't realise it," Rexha added, noting that weight gain is a common symptom she's experienced. "It's difficult. "I think for me, I've definitely struggled with my weight and with food for a long time."
"I remember starting out and getting my first record deal, and they kind of put it in my head and said to me when I first got signed, 'Are you ready to get into bootcamp shape?'" she added. Because you need to shed 20 pounds to pursue this career. 'As if you need to lose weight.'"
The "I'm Good (Blue)" singer-songwriter noted that because she was previously surrounded by negativity, she realises the value of who she surrounds herself with.
Rexha is frequently vocal about her weight loss journey. She talked about feeling "disappointed" after seeing comments about her weight on social media last month.
At the time, she shared a snapshot from a TikTok video in which the search box — which appears automatically based on popular searched material — stated "Bebe Rexha weight."
"Seeing that search bar is so upsetting," she wrote on Twitter. "I'm not upset because it's true. I did gain some weight. But it's just awful. Thank you to everyone that loves me no matter what."
"I've always had issues with my weight. "A bitch enjoys eating," she continued.
One of Rexha's fans then informed her that her photographs had lately been used for weight reduction advertisements, which she described as "just messed up."
"It doesn't matter as long as YOU are happy," one fan stated. "Don't starve yourself to death and lose your happiness!!!!!!!"
"I work on myself every day," Rexha responded. I'm just a little discouraged right now."
In December 2021, the "Break My Heart" singer uploaded an emotional social media video about her body image issues. Rexha described in the TikTok video how her weight increase has affected her self-confidence, saying she's having trouble keeping "merry" this Christmas season because she doesn't "feel good in [her] skin."
"So it's the holidays, and I know we're all supposed to be, like, merry and like, 'Yay, it's the holidays,' which I am — ish," she said at the start of the video.
Rexha later disclosed that she is the "heaviest" she has ever been, saying, "I weighed myself just now, and I don't feel comfortable sharing the weight because I feel embarrassed." "I just feel disgusting, like I'm in my own body."
Rexha went on to say that her feelings about her weight prompted her to take a break from social media.
"I haven't been posting as much because I don't feel good in my skin, and when I don't feel good, I don't want to post, and that's really the only reason I haven't been posting as much as I used to in the last year or so." "I think all of my body positivity comes from a place of hurt and confusion," she stated at the time, adding, "I don't know how to help myself anymore or how to love myself."
