The raised voices between Monica Garcia and her mother Linda have gone silent.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star told at BravoCon 2023 that the pair are no longer speaking following after an explosive argument at costar Angie Katsanevas’s Easter brunch aired on the show.
“You know, she makes it easier because she goes online and has a lot of not nice things to say and retweet,” said Garcia, 40, sarcastically. That said, she affirmed, “I’m OK right now.”
“I think my relationship with her has always been pretty volatile,” she acknowledged. “I don’t regret bringing her on. I think it’s something that people need to see, honestly, to not feel alone. My DMs were insane with people that were like, ‘I cried watching that scene because that’s my relationship with my parents,’ and I think for that reason alone, I definitely don’t regret it.”
Garcia’s revelation came amid the pair’s fractured relationship being exposed on season 4. At the brunch specifically, things got heated after Linda interrupted Garcia’s argument with Katsanevas and tried to calm her daughter down.
“Don’t f — -ing pull this s — — with me when you don’t have my back,” Garcia told her mom. “Get out of my face.”
During last week’s episode, Garcia opened up about her troubled younger years and told Heather Gay how her relationship with her mom — who likes to be called “LD” — is “so volatile” and “dates back to my whole childhood.”
“When I turned 12, my mom decided that she wanted to chase her dream so she dropped me off with a family in Pennsylvania and went and lived in New York,” Garcia shared. “My dad left me when I was 4 and then my mom left me, so I have major, major, abandonment issues because of that.”
Later in the episode, Garcia met up with her mother to discuss their issues, but things quickly turned even more sour.
While Garcia scolded her mom for taking “everybody else’s side” and apologizing for her to people she had “just met” at the brunch, Linda told her daughter to stop being “disrespectful” and called her a “motherf — -er” when Garcia interrupted her.
The dinner ended with Linda telling her daughter to “get over it” and asking when she would be forgiven. “Not today,” added Garcia, to which Linda responded, “We’re lost. I can’t fix this. I don’t have the tools. We need therapy, there’s no other way.”
In an Oct. 18 post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Linda criticized her daughter for the way she has treated her on the show.
“Monica begged me to do this reality show with her. Begged. I didn’t want to do it. She told me all I had to do was cook and speak Portuguese. How did she return the favor? She did me dirty,” wrote Linda. “Meanwhile, I would never compete with my only child — unless it’s sports. I’m too smart to try to go up against Monica, she’d chew me up and spit me out.”
She also said her daughter’s claims that she abandoned her were untrue and added, “I always put her needs above my own, even in her adulthood. I’m not a perfect human but I *am* a devoted mother and Vóvó. God bless us everyone. #RHOSLC.”
