It’s been years since Jennifer Lawrence admitted her crush on Seth Meyers, but it’s still a topic of conversation between the late night host and his wife.
In 2015, two years after Lawrence, 33, hosted Saturday Night Live, she admitted to Meyers on Late Night with Seth Meyers that she had a massive crush on the comedian and had intended to ask him out after the show — that is, until she found out he was already engaged.
On Monday, Meyers, 49, reflected on the actress’ confession during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
“Does that enter your mind at least once a week or you just have no time for it?” Howard Stern asked.
Meyers replied that he was “very flattered” by Lawrence’s crush — but his now wife, Alexi Ashe, was even more excited. “My wife was so happy. She was just, ‘I’m so happy Jennifer Lawrence told you that story. I’m so glad that you have that in your back pocket every single day.’ “
The former “Weekend Update” anchor said that during his 13-year tenure on SNL — engagement aside — he never had “the bandwidth to flirt with anyone,” despite the fact that “so many of the most charming, beautiful, intelligent women came through” the series each week.
“I also feel like I was always, like, filthy and sweaty and stressed and so it really… I mostly just think it reflects poorly on Jennifer Lawrence’s taste,” he joked.
During the episode of Late Night in 2015, Lawrence shared with the host that she had a “whole plan” all week long to either get Meyers to ask her out or ask him out herself. “I had created the romance in my head because I’m delusional,” she said.
Eventually, she confided in the “wardrobe lady” about her plan to give Meyers her phone number. “I talked to the wardrobe lady about it and I was like, ‘I think I’m gonna ask Seth Meyers out. I’m gonna give him my number.’ And she was like, ‘Honey, he’s engaged.’ I was like, cool, good talk.”
The two then made a toast after she joked that Meyers was now “safe” as he had married his then-fiancée. “Cheers to my humiliation, I guess,” the No Hard Feelings actress said. “This feels great. That’s the greatest thing I’ve ever cheersed.”
“We should’ve had you do a toast at our wedding,” Meyers joked.
Lawrence replied, “I’m happier without you!” — to which Meyers teased, “My wife would contend you probably are.”
Meyers married Ashe, 40, in 2013 in Martha’s Vineyard, and the two have since welcomed three children together, sons Ashe, 7, and Axel, 5, and daughter Adelaide, 2.
In 2022, he told that his sons are “ the two people that make me laugh the most,” and shared that he and Ashe are happy with their family of five.
He joked, “There’s a better chance I’ll write a second book than that we’ll have a fourth baby.”
The Howard Stern Show airs weekdays on SiriusXM (Ch. 100).
