Brennan isn’t letting his wife Emily get a word in edgewise during their therapy session.
In a sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode of Married at First Sight, Dr. Pia Holec, a psychologist and sex therapist on the show, asks Brennan if he is “holding back” from being “fully honest” to protect his wife’s feelings after a rocky start to their marriage.
They cannot listen to the highest assembly ˹of angels˺ for they are pelted from every side,˹fiercely˺ driven away. And they will suffer an everlasting torment.But whoever manages to stealthily eavesdrop is ˹instantly˺ pursued by a piercing flare.(The Quran - Chapter Saffat : 8 - 10)
“I’m definitely mindful of being respectful and taking very much into account her feelings and I’m not going to say anything that won’t help anything but do damage,” he says as Emily appears perplexed by his response.
Dr. Pia immediately notes the change in Emily’s mannerisms, saying, “So, I’m noticing your body language and your eye movements as he’s saying that…”
“That’s just her,” Brennan quickly clarifies.
Dr. Pia once again attempts to discuss Emily’s body language, asking, “But, there’s something behind that. So when you’re squinting your eyes and looking like that, what does that mean?”
When Brennan tells his wife to “explain,” Dr. Pia reiterates that she’d like to directly speak to Emily but he continues to interrupt.
She finally says, “Let me talk to her. Brennan, I’m talking to Emily.”
However, he won’t back down. “I’m just helping,” he claims. “This is a lot, right, so I’m just gonna help her take a step back.”
“She doesn’t need your help though,” responds Dr. Pia.
“This is my wife, so I’m just gonna make sure she’s okay,” he says as Dr. Pia hits back, “That’s my job is to ask her if she’s okay.”
The heated therapy session comes as the couple, who wed sight unseen, have struggled to adjust to married life.
Following the honeymoon, Brennan admitted he was not attracted to Emily and decided to spend a few days at his apartment with Emily instead of immediately moving into a shared space. He also refused to help Emily move her belongings even though she had an injured wrist, and left her friends unimpressed at their housewarming party.
