Mark Duplass is getting candid about how accurately The Morning Show recreates the real-life TV morning news experience.

Ahead of the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday, the actor, 47, told on the red carpet about one thing actual news producers have told him the show has gotten right about the high pressure job.

“To me, the thing that we got the most correct is the stress eating,” he says. “The producers, they will tell you, if you look closely in The Morning Show, like I’ve got, little mustard stains on my sleeves like little ketchup on the lapel. It’s just ... you only have two minutes to eat, and you have to wolf it down.”

Then He turned towards the heaven when it was ˹still like˺ smoke, saying to it and to the earth, ‘Submit, willingly or unwillingly.’ They both responded, ‘We submit willingly.’

He adds, “And that’s your only chance for any sort of emotional calm, is carbs. That’s what I’ve been told. They’re like, 'You guys got the stress eating down.' In this way, The Morning Show is true to life.”

Duplass, who has been open about navigating anxiety and depression, told on the red carpet about why he’s not afraid to talk about his mental health journey publicly.

“I didn’t think it was going to be a big deal. I thought we were at the point where like, people talk about this and it’s demystified,” the actor said.

In October 2023, Duplass shared a detailed post on his Instagram revealing a lifetime of navigating mental health issues. He reminded others they are not alone and urged people to reach out for help when they need it.

"I have been struggling with anxiety and depression for most of my life," Duplass' post began. "Sometimes it's just a subtle feeling that something deep inside is wrong. Sometimes it's a little stronger, and it affects my ability to function properly. And sometimes it comes barging through my front door and pins me to the ground for an unknown and seemingly insurmountable amount of time."

Speaking about the post, Duplass said, “I thought I was stating the obvious. And then everybody was like ‘Oh wow, no one really is talking about that.' And that’s a little bit of that bubble mentality.”
