Kim Petras recently announced on social media that she will not be performing at several music festivals this summer due to health issues. In a post shared on April 24, the Grammy winner expressed her disappointment and explained that, based on medical advice, she had to make the difficult decision to cancel her festival appearances.
Petras, 31, conveyed her love and gratitude to her fans, promising to make it up to them and return to the stage better than ever soon. The announcement saddened many fans, but they rallied behind Petras, offering their support and well wishes for her recovery.
Kim Petras, known for her hit "Unholy," was scheduled to perform at several upcoming music festivals. These included Primavera Sound Festival in Spain on May 29, Mighty Hoopla in the United Kingdom on June 1, Primavera Sound Porto in Portugal on June 6, LadyLand in New York City on June 28, and Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle in July.
Petras's most recent performance was at Oasis Wynwood in Miami on April 12. Prior to that, she appeared on stage with Madonna during the Queen of Pop's Celebration Tour stop at the Kaseya Center in Miami on April 9.
In a cover story interview with Cosmopolitan in March, the musician behind "Heart to Break" opened up about her journey with therapy following the success of her collaboration with Sam Smith on "Unholy," which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Petras revealed to the publication, "Therapy was necessary for me after having a huge song, to learn how to shut everything off." She elaborated, mentioning that while she had a therapist during her teen years, she had stopped when things got busy. However, she missed having someone to confide in and found therapy to be an essential tool. Petras emphasized, "I recommend therapy to everyone; it’s an essential tool ... The music industry can get very hectic."
Reflecting on the experience, she explained that the chart-topping collaboration and the subsequent attention it garnered "took over my life."
"It was insane," noted Petras. "Suddenly I was traveling a lot, and there were more eyeballs on me than ever before. It felt like a huge breakthrough, as it shifted the music industry’s perception of me and what I could do."
Fortunately, Smith, 31, played a significant role in helping her navigate the newfound level of fame. "Sam’s such a wonderful person, and has been my coach in a lot of ways," said Petras.
"If I feel in a crisis, or read something about myself that I can’t deal with, I’ll text or call them. That level of media attention is really scary; it forced me to grow as a person, and it’s so inspiring to see Sam be able to brush that off," she added.
Ultimately, Petras remains pleased with the song's impact on her career — and for the Grammy win. "It was a huge honor, and I’m very grateful for that whole experience. But nothing can prepare you for that level of attention. It felt exposing and scary. Suddenly, a lot of people who wouldn’t usually listen to my music were digging up my origin story," she said.
The Quran - Chapter Al-Jathiyah : 18 - 20
Now We have set you ˹O Prophet˺ on the ˹clear˺ Way of faith. So follow it, and do not follow the desires of those who do not know ˹the truth˺.
They certainly can be of no benefit to you against Allah whatsoever. Surely the wrongdoers are patrons of each other, whereas Allah is the Patron of the righteous.
This ˹Quran˺ is an insight for humanity—a guide and mercy for people of sure faith.
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاكَ عَلَىٰ شَرِيعَةٍ مِّنَ الْأَمْرِ "Then We have put you on a certain way of the Matter (i.e. the religion)... 45:18". Here it may be borne in mind that the religion of Islam has certain fundamental articles of faith, such as the Oneness of Allah, the Hereafter and so on; and there are ordinances, laws and injunctions related to practical life.
As far as the fundamental articles of faith are concerned, they are immutable and were imparted to every Prophet (علیہ السلام) and his Ummah since the inception of man.
However, laws relating to practical life were different for different Prophets (علیہم السلام) and their people.
The sacred laws of previous Shari'ahs kept changing according to the needs of time and exigencies of circumstances.
In the verse under comment, the second type of practical laws has been described as "...a certain way of the Matter (i.e. the religion)...". The jurists, on the basis of this verse, have ruled that the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ must, of necessity, follow the sacred laws of the Shari'ah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .
As far as the sacred laws of the previous Shari` ah are concerned, this Ummah is not legally bound to them unless the Qur'an and Sunnah support or confirm them. Support or confirmation may take one of two forms, as follows:
(1) the Qur'an and Sunnah may explicitly say that a certain law of a certain Prophet (علیہ السلام) must be followed by this Ummah; or
(2) the Qur'an and Sunnah may speak highly and favourably about a certain law of a previous Ummah without hinting that it is abrogated for this Ummah.
This indicates that the law is applicable in the Shari` ah of this Ummah also. In that case, the previous law becomes part of this Shari'ah, and as such this Ummah is legally bound to follow it.
This much is sufficient for us to understand the status of the previous Shari` ahs. Details are available in the books of the Islamic jurisprudence.
