Anitta Says Her 'Priorities Shifted' in Music After She Got Sick: 'I Don't Care What the F--- Is Going to Happen'

In 2023, Anitta fell ill and decided it was time to start living life on her own terms.

In a recent interview with Variety, published on May 1st, the Brazilian singer opened up about her illness and how it led her to take a break from music to focus on her health and reflect on her life.

Anitta, 31, expressed a newfound appreciation for life and death, admitting that her illness made her confront the uncertainty of tomorrow. She realized that if she were to die, she wanted to leave behind a body of work that truly represented her and her artistic vision, rather than just chasing hits and numbers.

The singer-songwriter faced a mysterious illness after the release of her album "Versions of Me," experiencing intense pain and fevers that left her unable to walk. Despite undergoing tests for cancer and autoimmune diseases, doctors couldn't pinpoint a diagnosis.

Taking time off for herself allowed Anitta to reevaluate her priorities. She no longer wanted to create music just to please others or chase sales numbers. Instead, she desired to pursue projects that reignited her passion for artistry.

Reflecting on her journey, Anitta admitted that focusing too much on sales numbers and critics' opinions had drained her happiness and energy. She's now determined to create music that fulfills her artistic soul, rather than conforming to external expectations.

Anitta continued, expressing how her perspective on life had shifted after contemplating the possibility of quitting or even passing away.

Her latest album, "Funk Generation," released in April, was deeply influenced by these thoughts and feelings. While she remains proud of her older music, this album holds a special significance for her.

"For so long, I let numbers dictate my success or failure, which pushed me towards creating something less original," she explained. "But with this album, I don't care about the outcome. I thrive on the uncertainty of whether people will like it."

Before "Funk Generation," Anitta dropped a three-song bundle titled "Funk Generation: a Favela Love Story," which she performed at the 2023 VMAs, where she won the Moon Person for best Latin video with "Funk Rave."

She was also nominated for best new artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Reflecting on the achievement, she expressed her happiness and the significance of representing Brazil on such prestigious platforms.

"I'm ecstatic. It's been a long time coming," she shared. "For 50 years, Brazil hasn't been recognized in a major category like this. So, for me, it's historic. My entire country is watching, waiting for this moment. I hope my presence here opens doors for more Brazilian artists so we don't have to wait another 50 years. It's a journey I'm truly grateful for."

The Quran - Chapter Al-Ahqaf : 12 - 14

And before this ˹Quran˺ the Book of Moses was ˹revealed as˺ a guide and mercy. And this Book is a confirmation, in the Arabic tongue, to warn those who do wrong, and as good news to those who do good.

Surely those who say, “Our Lord is Allah,” and then remain steadfast—there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.

It is they who will be the residents of Paradise, staying there forever, as a reward for what they used to do.

One argument in favour of the veracity of the Quran is that the previous revealed scriptures predicted it.

These predictions are still found in the Bible (Injeel) and the Torah. The Quran thus came as a realisation of earlier divine predictions, giving concrete shape to what had been foreseen many centuries before.

This is a clear indication that the Quran is really a divine Book; otherwise how could it have been possible to give advance information about it hundreds and thousands of years ago?

It is reported on the authority of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas that verse 13, broadly interpreted, means being steadfast in the discharge of duties attached to Faith. (Tafsir ibn Kathir).

Faith (iman) is a sacred pledge or vow. Time and again, moments of trial occur in the life of a man when he either keeps his pledge of Faith, or he breaks it. On such occasions, one who acts in accordance with his pledge of Faith, shows his steadfastness, while one who fails to do so, shows his lack of devotion.

Those unable to prove their steadfastness are transgressors, while those who prove to be steadfast are the ones who will be lodged in the eternal gardens of Paradise.
