Alicia Silverstone Says She’s ‘Alive and Well’ After Sparking Concern by Eating Possibly Toxic Fruit

Alicia Silverstone is alive and well!

The 47-year-old actress reassured her worried fans with an update on Tuesday, August 20, following the viral concern sparked by a TikTok video in which she was seen eating a potentially toxic fruit.

"Don’t worry... I didn’t swallow 😉😛," Silverstone wrote in the caption, sharing a playful photo of herself lying on her stomach.

The "Clueless" star’s health update came after she posted a video of herself in London, casually eating an orange fruit she’d never encountered before.

"I found something I can't identify, and I need your help," Silverstone said in the video as she examined the unusual seeded fruit she had picked from someone’s garden.

"I just took a bite because it was on the street, and we were debating whether it was a tomato or not," she continued, accidentally dropping the fruit on the ground in the process.

She then showed the camera the shrubs behind a fence where the mysterious fruit was growing.

"It’s definitely not a tomato; just look at these leaves," she observed. "So, what on earth is this? Because when you open it up, it looks like this," she added, pointing the camera back to the smashed fruit on the ground.

Undeterred, Silverstone picked up another of the fruits and took another bite. "And if I bite it— I don’t think this is meant to be eaten," she admitted. "But it tastes kind of like a pepper. Does anyone know what this is?"

Her followers quickly identified the fruit as a Jerusalem cherry, expressing their concern in the comments.

"Girl! Berries are either great or totally poisonous! Don’t eat random stuff off bushes😭😭," one fan warned.

"Is Alicia okay??? We need an update!" another concerned follower added. A third joked, "She’s clearly clueless… 😂," referencing the actress’s iconic ‘90s film.

The Northern New England Poison Center has cautioned that the Jerusalem cherry is “harmful to eat,” noting that even a small amount of the fruit or leaves can cause nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, while larger quantities can lead to heart rate issues.

The Jerusalem cherry contains a “poisonous alkaloid” making it toxic, although the poison is not typically life-threatening, according to Plantura.
