U.S. Audiences, listen up! Pop superstar Meghan Trainor, the voice behind the iconic "All About That Bass," is opening up about the powerful catalyst for her current focus on fitness and significant weight loss: a gestational diabetes diagnosis during her pregnancy.
In a candid chat on KIIS FM on Thursday, Nov. 20, the 31-year-old singer addressed the public scrutiny over her changing physique. "Everyone's just being like, like, 'Why are you thin now?' Like, 'You were 'All About That Bass' girl.' I was like, 'I was 19 when I came out with that song,' " she shared.
Trainor revealed that her commitment to getting healthy began when she was expecting. "I've been on a fitness journey since I got healthy," she explained. "And it started with when I was pregnant, I had gestational diabetes. And I was like, 'Oh, I got to learn about health and fitness.' "
For the Grammy winner, this newfound interest in wellness is driven by her desire to be a strong mother and maintain a long career. "If I want to tour forever, I got to be at my strongest," she emphasized. "If I want to lift up my kids from their crib and not pull out my back."
The "Still Don't Care" singer says she's now "strength training three times a week in the gym" and prioritizing overall wellness. "Now I'm obsessed with like how's my hormones? How's my gut? Because I just want to feel good, because this job is hard to do if you don't feel good," she added.
Despite her positive changes, Trainor shared a challenging aspect of her journey: the criticism she faced for becoming thinner. "But I got a lot of hate for being thinner. So that confused me and rattled me," she admitted.
In March, she addressed the online backlash head-on. She confirmed in an Instagram post that she decided to take Mounjaro—the brand name for the GLP-1 injectable drug tirzepatide—after welcoming her second child with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara.
Speaking at the Billboard's 2025 Women in Music Awards later that month, Trainor elaborated, noting that the medication was part of a holistic approach that included working with a dietician, making significant lifestyle changes, and having a trainer.
"I’ve been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me,” she stated. "Yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great."
In other news, Trainor recently dropped "Still Don't Care," the lead single from her highly anticipated upcoming album, Toy with Me. She told that the track is a reaction to the negativity she's encountered. "I liked the idea of... 'Let me think about it one more time. Nope, I still don't care,' " she said, calling the song her own "exposure therapy."
