Hayley Kiyoko Brings Drag Queens to Nashville Stage to Protest Tennessee Drag Show Restrictions

Hayley Kiyoko's voice is being heard!

By bringing out two drag performers during her act in Nashville on Monday, the singer, 32, underlined her objection to a Tennessee law that limits public "adult cabaret" performances.

"The past 48 hours have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least," Kiyoko wrote on Instagram. "On our day off in Nashville, we went to a drag show at @playnashville, and I was honoured to be called up on stage." We then planned to have other great queens join us the next day for my show,"
According to Kiyoko, the performers, LiberTea and Ivy St. James, walked the stage with "no fear" after she was "advised by local law enforcement that having a drag performance at my all ages show could result in legal action."

"I never want to put anyone in a position to be at risk or in danger in any way," Kiyoko stated in the description. "However, where do you draw the line between being heard and being silenced?" How do we deal with these ridiculous threats and laws aimed at our community? I take pride in ensuring that my concerts are safe spaces for ALL. How can I accomplish that if we aren't allowed to be ourselves, especially at a queer-focused concert? We deserve to be able to be ourselves while navigating the evil that threatens our own life."

According to CBS, Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed the Tennessee bill in February, but it was halted by a federal judge before it went into force in April.

According to the publication, a Nashville police representative also denied the occurrence, citing the judge's stay, which expires on May 26.

Kiyoko has frequently spoken up about her identity and ideas on stage.

During a recent concert in London, she serenaded her girlfriend Becca Tilley in front of her fans to commemorate their five-year anniversary.

"If you don't know who this is, this is my beautiful girlfriend Becca Tilley," she stated onstage, according to a video provided by an attendee. "She's been on the road with us for nearly a week. "How are things going?"

"It's fun," Tilley, 34, said. I haven't gotten much sleep."

Tilley enthused about the event in an Instagram tribute that included a video collage of their cutest moments.

"5 years ago, on this fateful day in April of 2018, I got invited to a birthday/album release party for @hayleykiyoko," she wrote.

"I was hesitant to say yes because I was tired from the night before, but @brittneylaurenn persuaded me to rally, and so we hopped in our minivan Uber (a good luck sign for us) and went to the party.... & the rest is history." Hayley, there have been very few times in the last five years when you have not been on my mind. "I adore you!" she exclaimed.
