Why Request for New Trial Denied?
The Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford has
rejected the request made by Tory Lanez for a new trial after being convicted
in December 2022 of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez’s attorney Jose Baez
argued a day prior to the decision that his being found guilty of assault with a
semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and
discharging a firearm with gross negligence was due to procedural errors,
prosecutorial misconduct, discovery violations and ineffective counsel.
According to the FOX 11, the Judge Herriford revealed that,
The court finds no error, prosecutorial misconduct or newly discovered evidence.
Lengthy Hearing Brief
According to FOX 11, Baez and co-counsel Matthew Barhoma asked
for several recesses due to lengthy hearing, complained about Herriford's
handling of their defense claims and argued against the judge for not allowing
for more witnesses and exhibits in Lanez's defense. The outlet further added, Lanez’s
lawyer claimed that his former attorney George Mgdesyan was not prepare well in
the due core time and 10 day trial was a jumbled, bungled mess.
Lanez is currently in jail since the verdict was read in December
with the 22 years and eight months in prison but still waits for sentencing
date.
Rapper's Gun Tattoo as Evidence
Lanez’s legal team filed for a new trial last month raising the question that how rapper’s gun tattoo used as evidence which was taken from Lanez’s Instagram account. This act is wrongful and they believe that the Judge will re-consider such loose evidence in the case.
Lanez Words with Judge
The rapper pledge to the Judge Herriford after being denied
for a new trail request and said
"Your honor, please don't ruin my life."
Megan Thee Stallion Interview
Meghan open up about the Lanez conviction during an interview
with Elle last month that
"I don't want to call myself a victim. As I reflect on the past three years, I view myself as a survivor, because I have truly survived the unimaginable, Not only did I survive being shot by someone I trusted and considered a close friend, but I overcame the public humiliation of having my name and reputation dragged through the mud by that individual for the world to see. It was more than just vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them."
