Jenna Dewan, the star of "The Rookie," is using a variety of home treatments to combat mastitis, a common and painful infection often linked to breastfeeding.
Dewan and her fiancé, Steve Kazee, welcomed their daughter, Rhiannon Lee Kathryn Kazee, on June 14. While Dewan has been sharing serene moments with her newborn on Instagram, she has also opened up about dealing with mastitis, a potential complication of nursing.

"Mastitis morning party," Dewan captioned an Instagram story showing various supplements, including Phytolacca Decandra (poke root), a homeopathic remedy used since the 1800s to treat mastitis.
In addition to supplements, Dewan tried using a red-light therapy mask from Currentbody on her breast while nursing Rhiannon. "Pretty sure you didn’t design it for this, but red light therapy being tried too," she noted.
According to the National Library of Medicine, a study from China found that high-intensity red light (630 nM) combined with antibiotics was more effective at treating and preventing the recurrence of mastitis than antibiotics alone. Laser light has also been part of a multi-step procedure to address mastitis.
The Mayo Clinic describes mastitis as "an inflammation of breast tissue that sometimes involves an infection," resulting in pain, swelling, warmth, and redness, often accompanied by fever and chills. The condition can stem from a blocked milk duct or bacteria, and treatment typically includes a 10-day course of antibiotics. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also help. It's safe to continue breastfeeding with mastitis, even while on antibiotics, as nursing can assist in clearing the infection.
Despite her mastitis, Dewan seems to be relishing her quiet moments with Rhiannon, who joins siblings Callum, 4, and Everly, 11, whom Dewan shares with her ex-husband, Channing Tatum.

Dewan recently posted a photo series of herself cuddling with all three children in bed and on the couch, as well as napping with Rhiannon and her dogs. "It's been a snuggle summer so far," she wrote.
In another set of photos featuring cozy moments with her kids, fiancé, and dogs, Dewan remarked, "Postpartum is truly a vibe."
