Tallulah Willis seeks to increase awareness about autism after her own diagnosis last year.
On July 24, Autism Speaks, a nonprofit organization, announced that the 30-year-old, daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, will host its Los Angeles Gala this year.
The event will be held on October 24 at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, where Willis will be honored for her efforts to raise autism awareness. Previous honorees include Dave Grohl, J.K. Simmons, Sarah McLachlan, Alyssa Milano, Jeannie Mai, Kristin Chenoweth, Naomi Campbell, and others.
"Since my late-life autism diagnosis, I’m still learning how it affects my daily life," Willis told. "Before my diagnosis, I realized that my heightened sensitivity with taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing was not common for everyone else."
"My aim is to raise as much awareness and understanding around ASD as possible, especially in supporting women who are often misdiagnosed," she added.
Autism Speaks describes autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as "a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication."

According to the organization, autism signs typically appear around ages 2-3. However, signs can be missed as autism is a spectrum and pediatricians may wait before diagnosing, according to the Child Mind Institute.
“We are privileged to have advocates like Tallulah raising awareness about the most pressing issues for the autistic community,” said Georgianna Junco-Kelman, Autism Speaks board member and special education attorney. “While we celebrate the progress made in inclusion at past Autism Speaks Los Angeles Galas, more work is needed to ensure opportunities in the entertainment sector for people with autism to reach their full potential.”

Willis first disclosed her autism diagnosis in a social media post in March. “Found out this summer and it’s changed my life. ☀️” she shared on Instagram, calling herself “neurospicy” in a comment.
