In the most recent episode of 'Pod Meets World' aired on Monday, Aug. 19, actress Danielle Fishel shared an important update regarding her health.
The 43-year-old star of "Boy Meets World" revealed that she has been diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer known as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). During the podcast, Fishel, who is also a mother of two, opened up about her condition alongside her co-hosts, Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
"I want to share something personal with our listeners... I recently found out I have DCIS, which is a type of breast cancer," Fishel disclosed. She reassured her audience, saying, "It's very, very early. Technically, it's considered stage zero. I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro invasion. But I’m going to be okay—I’m having surgery to remove it."
Fishel also mentioned that she will be undergoing some additional follow-up treatments.
The actress credited her early diagnosis to her diligence in keeping up with her regular health screenings. "The only reason I caught this cancer while it’s still in the earliest stage is because the day I received the reminder for my yearly mammogram, I immediately scheduled the appointment," she explained.
Fishel decided to go public with her diagnosis after speaking with others who have faced similar challenges, realizing there is a wealth of resources and support available. "For some reason, I always thought that if I ever got diagnosed with cancer, I would just suffer in silence. I would only tell a few close people and keep it to myself. But then, I realized that there’s so much to learn from sharing your story, especially in the beginning or in the messy middle," she reflected on the podcast.
She went on to share that she had to make numerous decisions before revealing her health situation, and mentioned that her work on the podcast might be paused as she undergoes treatment.
Fishel hopes that by sharing her experience, she can encourage others to prioritize regular health check-ups. "I’m diligent about keeping my doctor’s appointments, even though it would be so easy to skip them because of how busy I am. But I didn’t skip my mammogram, and they caught it early, which means I’m going to be okay," she emphasized.
The Quran - Chapter At-Tahrim : 04
˹It will be better˺ if you ˹wives˺ both turn to Allah in repentance, for your hearts have certainly faltered. But if you ˹continue to˺ collaborate against him, then ˹know that˺ Allah Himself is his Guardian. And Gabriel, the righteous believers, and the angels are ˹all˺ his supporters as well.
