A celebrated gospel singer, Shonka Dukureh, who played Big Mama role in the Elvis biopic alongside Austin Butler passed away at the age of 44 in her apartment Kothe Way, the Nashville, Tennessee.
According to the Nashville Metropolitan PD, Dukureh was living with two young children when she found unresponsive by one of them and informed their neighbors and called 911.
There is no foul play so far and authorities are waiting for autopsy results to collect the exact cause of death.
Nashville Mayor John Cooper shared in a statement via Fox17,
"My deepest condolences to the family of Shonka Dukureh. Shonka graduated from Fisk and called Nashville home for many years, Her powerful voice and artistry will live on through her music, and we honor her memory on this sad day."
