'Twisted Metal' Teaser: Anthony Mackie Revs His Engine in Peacock's Latest Video Game Adaptation

Start your engines, because another TV adaptation of a popular video game is on the way.

The first teaser for Peacock's new action-comedy series "Twisted Metal," which will premiere on the streaming service on July 27 with all ten episodes, has been revealed.

"Twisted Metal" is based on the same-named PlayStation automobile combat video game series. Players in the games operate lethal demolition derby vehicles and destroy each other in a hellish Twisted Metal contest. The games include a wacky cast of characters, the most well-known of whom being Sweet Tooth, a serial killer clown who drives an ice cream truck. He appears briefly at the end of the trailer. Fans get a first peek at the revamped 'Twisted' in the first trailer.

The show "Twisted Metal" features John Doe, "a motor-mouthed outsider" played by Marvel actor Anthony Mackie. When John discovers a life-changing opportunity, he discovers that it comes at a high cost – the delivery of a strange parcel. To complete his goal and survive the onslaught of killer cars, John must drive through the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Stephanie Beatriz plays Quiet, Thomas Haden Church plays Agent Stone, Richard Cabral plays Loud, and wrestler Samoa Joe plays Sweet Tooth, who is voiced by Will Arnett. Neve Campbell, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans, Chloe Fineman, and Lou Beatty Jr. appear as guests.

Another video game-turned-TV adaptation premiere comes as no surprise, given previous ventures such as HBO's "The Last of Us" and Universal's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" have been hugely successful.

"Twisted Metal" is based on a tale written by Michael Jonathan Smith, showrunner and executive producer, and produced by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Reese and Wernick, along with Mackie, Arnett, and Marc Forman, executive produce through Electric Avenue, which secured the rights to the material and assisted in putting the film together. Inspire Entertainment's Jason Spire, Artists First's Peter Principato, PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, and PlayStation Studios' CEO Hermen Hulst will also executive produce.
