90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way was full of blindsides on Monday night.
Brandan’s mother tried to settle into his Filipino home but found herself bombarded with creepy crawlies. Daniele was surprised by the negative balance in her bank account, and Kimberly went to sleep peacefully after her wedding — with no idea of the wifely burdens that would soon befall her.
Communication was an issue for many of the couples as incompatibilities and lies piled up. Here’s where the couples left off on Monday night’s episode.
Kimberly and TJ
Now officially married in an all-nighter wedding, Kimberly and TJ cut some of their Hindu wedding traditions short so she could take a much-needed nap.
“This is probably the most exhausting experience I’ve ever had, but I like being married to him so far,” she said before dozing off. “Right now, my goal is to just give living here a fair shot, try my best at communicating clearly and calmly with everyone and allowing these relationships to grow and flourish because I feel like all of us really need a new beginning.”
When she awoke, though, TJ had a whole lot to tell her about her duties as the “head of household.”
“Now we are married and Kimberly is about to know her responsibilities in the household, but she has no clue. And I haven’t been open about all this thing with Kimberly so that she shouldn’t freak out [about] the things,” he admitted. “So in India, we give that particular respect to the women only because she acts like a mother whenever it [is] needed. She works outside, she acts like a sister. Also the caretaker as well. That’s why she’s [the] head of the house.”
Above all, TJ offered his respect for how his new wife had adapted to his culture. “When I look at Kimberly, being as an American, never ever experienced the Indian marriage, [I’m] so appreciating how she managed through this … I really love her for this.”
Daniele and Yohan
Viewers wouldn’t be too far afield to worry it might be over for Daniele and Yohan after their blowout argument on Monday. Then again, they’ve always bounced back in the past.
Daniele questioned Yohan after seeing a $40 ATM withdrawal from her account — something she’d noticed a few times. Yohan first denied taking the money, until Daniele threatened to ask the bank for video footage of who accessed her account.
Yohan felt entitled to Daniele’s money as her husband, but Daniele didn’t appreciate having to pay the bulk of their shared bills with her own money.
“Do not fill up your mouth saying you do everything for me,” Yohan warned his wife, pointing to the rent, groceries, and utilities he had paid. Daniele laid down an ultimatum — her husband could equally contribute or return to his mother’s house.
In Spanish, he responded, “The problem is, I won’t go back empty-handed. You want me to leave this apartment? Give me the money I’ve spent here.”
Daniele didn’t see a point in giving Yohan his rent back. “The fact that Yohan is asking for reimbursement for rent doesn’t make any sense to me. Like, why do I owe it to him? Has he lost his f — -ing mind? Like, I’m not paying you.”
Daniele decided to take a stand, telling Yohan, “You need to find another American wife, one who is codependent. There are so many. I can refer you out.”
She continued, “Get out of my house. You are out of your mind, and I don’t want you here anymore. Do you understand that? I don’t want you here.”
But it didn’t seem like Yohan would be leaving anytime soon — at least not without his cash. Daniele reflected on the demise of their marriage in an interview: “I never thought that Yohan would be the kind of person that wouldn’t want to contribute equally. I believed that he didn’t contribute because he couldn’t.”
She added, “But now that he can contribute and he’s choosing not to, and actively choosing to steal from me, who’s provided for him for all this time like this is so unreasonable. It’s insulting, it’s embarrassing. And this is more evidence that Yohan is only with me for money.”
Shekinah and Sarper
It was all love for Shekinah and Sarper, who finally bought a new bed on Monday’s episode. While testing out mattresses, they reflected on their successful sex life. “You know that you’re a totally multiple orgasmic bitch you know?” Sarper asked his girlfriend.
Shekinah was more bashful on the topic, though she called their intimacy the “best sex ever,” even while sleeping on Sarper’s couch.
Even bigger than the bed purchase, though, was Sarper finally posting a photo of himself and Shekinah on social media. With their romance made public for everyone to see, the couple left the store happy and in love — and presumably ready to test drive their new mattress.
Holly and Wayne
Holly was having trouble adjusting to life in South Africa one week after her wedding. She Zoomed with her mother, who also had concerns about the amount of time Holly was spending alone. With Wayne working to pay the bills, Holly often found herself solo, which she called “very isolating.”
“I don’t know if South Africa ever will feel like home,” she said in an interview. “My life’s so different and don’t have any friends. And Wayne’s the person I fell in love with, So I feel a lot of responsibility on my shoulders because I agreed to this life. I’m supposed to make this work, but at the same time, I don’t know if I can make it work.”
Holly’s mom added more fear to Holly’s own stresses, pointing to the lack of safety in the country. “When I was there, I just really didn’t feel safe. It was scary to me. And I do worry about you there,” she said.
Brandan and Mary
Brandan’s mom was settling in — or at least trying to.
The American woman had to adjust to the bugs and lizards that were found inside her son’s home. “She has arachnophobia in my opinion, but she just needs to know that there’s a different way of living here in the Philippines,” Brandan said. “You got to be one with the bugs.”
He smashed a giant spider next to her bed and later scared away a lizard lurking over the mattress. Meanwhile, Mary still wasn’t thrilled to have her future mother-in-law staying in their home. “I feel a lot of pressure because she will stay with me and Brandan. I’m really worried that she will judge me and my family and how we live no matter what I do,” Mary said.
She pointed to the mom’s comments on the poverty level in the area. Brandan countered that the mom just wasn’t used to the type of environment where he was now living.
For Mary, Brandan’s justification for his mom’s behavior was an act of betrayal. “From the start you’re defending her,” Mary said. Though Brandan insisted, “I’m on your side,” Mary shot back, “I don’t feel it.”
Brandan was already sick of being in the middle — and this would be just the start. “My biggest hope for my mom visiting us in the Philippines is for her and Mary to be good with each other. Because if something bad occurs between them, I’m in the middle,” he shared. “If I can’t get them to just have some sort of mutual understanding before they get into a fight or, God forbid, get into a fight during our wedding day, it would just ruin everything.”
