Drew Barrymore isn’t afraid to be on the dating scene, and it’s all thanks to Taylor Swift!
During an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 48-year-old eponymous talk show host opened up about how the Grammy-winning artist, 33, has inspired her to stop being so in her head when it comes to dating.
Barrymore recalled taking her daughter to Swift’s Eras Tour film and watching her fans sing and dance in the theater during her “Drew’s News” segment.
While noting the “Anti-Hero” singer’s ability to push people to “express themselves in a very joyous, positive way,” the actress brought up the fearless nature of how she was able to go public with her new relationship with Travis Kelce.
“I just want to say for me personally, I have been single for seven years. Happily seeing her on that first date, out there in the box with his family — I really had a very big Oprah ‘aha’ moment,” she said. “There was something so normal about it.”
Acknowledging that “Taylor Swift is everything but normal,” Barrymore explained that she appreciated the simplicity of how the night transpired.
“It was just like, ‘I’m a female. I’m going to go out on a date with a male. I’m not going to overthink this. I’m not going to play the dark horse and be secretive and weird about it,’” she continued. “It was like she just went on a date and it made me think I could just go out on a date.”
The Charlie’s Angels alum commended Swift for “not being affected by what other people think” or stopping herself from living her life.
“I don’t know, it was so calm and confident and normal,” she said. “That it just made me think I should do this too and I thank her for that.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Barrymore shared that Swift’s new relationship had inspired her to take the person she’s been seeing on-and-off for “around the last three years” to a wedding.
“I invited him to a wedding next weekend, and he said, ‘Wow, after three-and-a-half years, you are going to invite me to a wedding?’” she told Gwyneth Paltrow who previously opened up about her five-year anniversary with husband Brad Falchuk. “Something about Taylor Swift dating like a normal person and not being a dark horse about it.”
“I was like, I overthink everything, I should just go on a date,” she reflected, quipping. “What’s wrong with me?”
The “Shake It Off” singer and Kansas City Chiefs football player, 34, first sparked dating rumors in September after Swift attended a handful of Kelce’s games.
Kelce previously revealed that he invited Swift to attend one of his games while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show podcast, teasing that he “ threw the ball in her court “ after seeing her perform at Arrowhead Stadium during her Eras Tour in July.
The two seemingly confirmed their romance in October as they stepped out holding hands at a Saturday Night Live afterparty. A source told that the pair are still in the “super, super early days” of getting to know one another but are “having fun.”
“They’re just hanging out, and there’s no pressure,” the source added.
Though the two have kept the details of their romance pretty private, Kelce has talked about Swift in various interviews.
