After his son William "Billy" John, 7, underwent a successful third open heart surgery, Jimmy Kimmel, host of a late-night show, expressed gratitude.
Kimmel, 56, shared a touching photograph that showed Billy giggling from his hospital bed on Monday, May 27. Kimmel revealed that Billy had had another open heart surgery over the weekend in the Instagram caption. Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney have a son named Billy in 2017 who was born with a congenital heart defect.
This past weekend, our son Billy had his third—and probably final—open-heart surgery. In the end, we emerged with a happy, healthy child who had a new heart valve, but we entered this with a mixture of optimism and worry," Kimmel wrote. He sent his gratitude to the nurses and personnel at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, as well as all the medical professionals.
Seeing children in pain, seeing parents at their most vulnerable state, and witnessing the incredible efforts of those who try to heal them all makes one feel profoundly humbled as they go through this hospital. We sincerely hope you never need CHLA, but in the event that you do, know that they assist families regardless of their financial situation, mostly because of the Affordable Care Act, wonderful gifts from businesses like Disney (where I am honored to work), and particularly kind people like you,” he said.
Kimmel also expressed thanks to the “strangers who took time to pray for and send positive energy to our baby,” as well as their friends and family for their overwhelming support.
He praised his wife for “being stronger than any mother should have to be,” and described Billy as “the toughest (and funniest) 7-year-old we know.”
“There are many parents and children who aren’t fortunate enough to go home after five days,” Kimmel added. “Please share your love, hearts, and prayers with them. If you feel moved, support @ChildrensLA or a great children’s hospital near you (@CMNHospitals). Taking care of each other is what matters most. With love and gratitude, Jimmy.”
Many of Kimmel’s friends left supportive comments on his post, sending their love and best wishes to Billy.
"We love you Billy ❤️," wrote Carson Daly. Andy Cohen added, "Love to Billy!!!❤️."
"God bless your little Billy. He’s lucky to have parents like you and the care from CHLA," commented John Stamos.
Jenna Dewan wrote, "So much love to you Jimmy, Molly, and Billy!! ❤️🙌👏😍."
Last month, Kimmel reminisced about Billy’s previous surgeries while celebrating his 7th birthday.
On April 21, Kimmel shared his appreciation on Instagram for the doctors and staff at CHLA for their incredible work with his son.
“Billy turns 7 today and is doing great thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai,” Kimmel wrote. “Billy is asking friends 'to give $7 because I’m seven to help kids in the hospital.' (he also wants a spy kit) His goal is 'to raise $100 to help sick kids.' If you’d like to donate - thank you and link in bio.”
The charming carousel featured Billy kicking at the camera with a gentle smile in one photo and wearing a Lakers jersey with a basketball under his arm in another.
In another post on the same day, Kimmel shared a close-up of Billy, writing, “This boy is seven years old because of you. Molly and I are overwhelmed by your generous donations to @childrensla and kind messages. Thank you for all the love. We wish you and your families good health and great friends.”
The Quran - Chapter An-Najm : 33
Have you seen the one who turned away ˹from Islam,˺
Ad-Durr-ul-Manthur reports from Ibn Jarir that a person embraced Islam and one of his friends rebuked him for having abandoned his forefather's religion. He responded that he fears Allah's chastisement.
The friend told him to make a certain payment to him, and he will take upon himself his punishment of the Hereafter. Thus he [ the new Muslim ] will be spared from the chastisement, and consequently he made the payment to him.
The friend demanded more payment. After a scuffle, he made the additional payment to him, and for the balance a document was drawn up with signatures of witnesses.
That person, according to Ruh-ul-Ma’ ani, was Walid Ibn Mughirah who was inclined towards Islam. But his friend reproached him and took the responsibility of punishment upon his own shoulders.
