Christie Brinkley's Lucky Catch: Skin Cancer Diagnosed During Daughter's Appointment

 Christie Brinkley disclosed that she found she had skin cancer after a spur of the moment trip to a specialist. She explained her experience on the Today show with hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

Brinkley explained that she had accompanied her daughter to a dermatologist appointment. As the doctor was examining her daughter, Brinkley hesitated but eventually decided to mention a spot on her face. "While he was using his magnifying glass to check a couple of things my daughter was concerned about, I thought, 'You know, there's this little spot on the side of my head. Should I mention it? It's not my appointment,'" Brinkley recounted.

Just as the appointment was wrapping up, Brinkley spoke up. "As he began to put away all of his equipment, I asked him to take a glance at the spot," she continued. The doctor quickly proposed a biopsy, adding, "We've got to do a biopsy immediately." The results confirmed that it was carcinoma of the basal cells.

In March, Brinkley shared her diagnosis on Instagram, posting photos after her surgery. "The good news is we caught the basal cell carcinoma early," she wrote. "I had great doctors who removed the cancer and stitched me up perfectly, like haute couture Dior."

Brinkley mentioned on Today that her hair luckily covered the scar, making it barely noticeable. carcinoma of basal cells is the most frequent kind of skin cancer, often appearing on exposed parts of the body like the neck and forehead, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation and the Mayo Clinic. Long-term exposure to ultraviolet ( UV ) rays from sunshine is a leading cause.

Krista M. Rubin, a nurse practitioner with the Mass General Cancer Center Melanoma Team, told that frequent sunburns can cause irreparable DNA damage and immunological suppression, resulting in skin cancer. Unprotected sun exposure also increases the risk of premature wrinkles, blisters, scarring, coloration of the skin, alterations in skin texture, suppressing the immune system, and eye impairment, such as cataracts.

According to Brinkley, "It's Skin Cancer Awareness Month, as we move into the heat of the summer and it's a good time for reminding everyone to use sunblock, wear a hat, and get regular examinations."

The Quran - Chapter An-Najm : 35 

Does he have the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees ˹the Hereafter˺?

أَعِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَ‌ىٰ (Does he have knowledge of the Unseen whereby he sees [ what he believes ]?...53:35) According to the story recounted in connection with the occasion of revelation, the verse means: 

The person who embraced Islam and later abandoned it because his friend assured him that he would bear the punishment in the Hereafter on his behalf, and spare him the pain. 

The fool believed him and took for granted the assurance given to him. Does he have the knowledge of the Unseen, so that he is able to see that the chastisement he deserves for disbelief will be taken over for sure by his friend? 

This is wholly a make-believe situation. He neither has the knowledge of the Unseen, nor can he take on the punishment of somebody else and save him. 

Apart from the story recounted in connection with the occasion of revelation, the verse would mean: Does this person, who stopped giving for fear of poverty and ended his acts of charity have knowledge of the Unseen and thus knows that if he does not stop spending, his wealth will go away? No. 

This is absolutely false. Such a person has neither the knowledge of the Unseen so that he is able to see that if he goes on spending, his wealth wi11 be depleted and not replenished. 

He stopped spending in charity for righteous causes, and did not keep relations with kith and kin because of his miserliness, being stingy and out of fear of poverty. The Qur'an makes plain in [ 34:39]

مَا أَنفَقْتُم مِّن شَيْءٍ فَهُوَ يُخْلِفُهُ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ‌ الرَّ‌ازِقِينَ

And whatever thing you spend, He replaces it. And He is the best of the sustainers. [ 34:39]
