Lance Bass Reveals He Has Type 1.5 Diabetes Here's What That Means

Lance Bass recently shared on Instagram that he was "misdiagnosed" with Type 2 diabetes.

Lance Bass has provided an update on his diabetes diagnosis.

In an Instagram reel, Bass, 45, unveiled a surprising “plot twist,” revealing that he actually has “Type 1.5 diabetes.”

“As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few years back,” the singer said in a sponsored post for a continuous glucose monitor. “But from the beginning, I struggled to control my glucose levels despite making changes to my diet, medication, and exercise routine.”

“I recently learned that I was misdiagnosed,” he confirmed. “I actually have Type 1.5, or latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA).”

According to the Mayo Clinic, LADA is similar to Type 1 diabetes, where the pancreas stops producing insulin due to an autoimmune response that damages the pancreatic cells.

Unlike typical diabetes diagnoses, LADA develops slowly in adults over 30 and is usually seen in people who are lean, physically active, or have lost weight without trying.

The American Diabetes Association notes that LADA symptoms are similar to other forms of diabetes and can include excessive thirst, extreme fatigue, and tingling or numbness in the extremities.

Because LADA develops gradually, it can often be managed with lifestyle changes to diet and exercise, though insulin shots may eventually be needed.

In March, Bass told that he had been previously diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes during COVID and was “trying to figure out how to control it."

"I'm learning what you can eat, when you can eat, when to take your insulin — and all of that has been really challenging," he explained.

However, with lifestyle adjustments, Bass has started feeling better and even wrote in his Instagram post that he is “feeling more confident and in control than ever 💪.”

"The older I get, the more I realize I need to take care of my body. So, I work out whenever I can," he told. "Exercise is crucial for me right now, but my schedule makes it hard to get to a gym. So, I have a nice setup at home and squeeze in 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there."

O believers! Indeed, some of your spouses and children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon, overlook, and forgive ˹their faults˺, then Allah is truly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
