Sam Smith is sharing their experiences with the risks of winter sports!
In an episode of the Sidetracked with Annie and Nick podcast, released on July 18, Smith — who uses they/them pronouns — revealed that after tearing their anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a skiing accident earlier this year, they couldn't walk for a month.

Back in January, Smith was seen in Soho, New York City, wearing a leg brace and using a walking stick.
"I completely ripped my ACL. I was skiing and, being foolish, went on a black slope on the second day," said the 32-year-old. “I got taken down in a blood bag. It was the worst. It's a permanent thing."
"The ACL is between your bones and helps you jump and move around. It completely ripped, and I opted for the non-surgical route, but I couldn't walk for a month, and it was awful," the singer continued.
The musician added, "It was the first time I'd ever been unable to move, and I was carrying a bit of extra weight. I felt very anxious. I used the experience as a wake-up call to get my act together."
According to the Mayo Clinic, an ACL injury is "a tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) — one of the strong bands of tissue that help connect your thigh bone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia)."
Smith also shared on the podcast that they recently got a new phone because they needed a U.S. number and wanted to clear their contacts of exes' numbers.
"I actually just got rid of my phone and got a new one. For the first time, I don't have the music library I've had since I was 11," Smith said. "I started fresh. I needed an American number, and my phone was just full of exes and various people from over the years."
But the musician didn't stop there and also removed social media apps from their phone. "I took social media off. Everything. It's crazy. Now, I find myself sitting on benches in parks just looking at the trees," they added.
The Quran - Chapter As-Saf: 05
˹Remember, O Prophet,˺ when Moses said to his people, “O my people! Why do you hurt me when you already know I am Allah’s messenger to you?” So when they ˹persistently˺ deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate. For Allah does not guide the rebellious people.
